recently we went to an open house. It was an older house, nobody lived in it for years. DH and I went upstairs and as we were going up he turned and asked me if i farted. 
He then went to open a door and it was locked. 5 min later a guy walks out of the BATHROOM!
dude was taking a sh!t!!!!!
we couldnt stop laughing! as we were walking out, the guy was right behind us. He wasnt even a buyer! His wife was waiting for him in the street! They were out jogging!
OMG! STOP!! LMAOOOOOOO

It comes up in your feed because real estate agents can create a post with their listings and then pay to make it a "sponsored post" and then it will pop up in the feed of people who meet the demographics entered (age, location, etc) for the target audience. It's actually a pretty inexpensive way (relatively speaking) for a realtor to advertise.
Yes, I'm always shocked by how some people represent their listings.
Some companies - including my own - use professional photographers. But the problem is, if the agent doesn't show up when the photographer is taking the photos, nothing is "staged." The photographer is not going to move the garbage or make the beds (or direct the seller to do it). They take it "as is."
If the agents are taking the photos themselves, then they are just lazy or dumb. I personally love the shots of just a toilet bowl, with the lid up.
But this is why I tell my buyers, don't get too hung up on the online listings or judge a house by the photos. In this market, with low inventory, you have to be open-minded to seeing houses. It's hard to judge the layout or room size or lots of other things by photos alone. And some agents just do a terrible job with photos, descriptions, and basic marketing of their listings. Can't live or die by the photos alone, although as an agent, it's your job to make the house look good, and there's no excuse for the type of pics you describe.
But if i was the seller- and the professional photog showed up to take the pics without the agent, I would still have enough common sense to know to pick my socks up off the floor, take the mop and plunger out of the bathroom and empty the trash so it's not overflowing.
I wouldn't need the photog or the agent to tell me.
People are truly morons.
I mean, yes, of course. But there are people lacking common sense in every walk of life. And that includes people who need to sell their home. You would be surprised how many people need a lot of direction to get their home "showing ready."
But I blame the agent. While the seller should know and not need to be told, the agent is there to make sure that the seller does what they are supposed to do, and guide them through the process.

If you want to PM me the address, I can take a look and see what I can figure out. There's more info on the agent version of the listings (I can look up the history). Usually if a house was actually under contract, falls out, and is relisted during the period of the initial listing contract, they need to provide a reason on the listing as to why it's back on the market. Sometimes it will also appear in a "broker's comment" section.
If it was actually "under contract" - it wouldn't be an inspection issue, most likely. The inspection comes first, and if there are needed repairs or problems that the seller won't address, the buyer would never sign the contract. In that case, it just stays on the market.
It may be buyers not obtaining financing or something like a C/O or other title issue.

Your original comment reminds of when I watch those house shows and a buyer will say how they don't like the paint color or furniture, likes it's a factor. You can change the color, drives me crazy.

We ended up buying one of those houses with bad real estate photos although we saw the house before seeing the old listing photos. I don't know what they were thinking -- the rooms were furnished horribly with really dated stuff (think: green leather couches, really dated 80s/90s decor) and they included close-ups of the dated furniture (which they werent even leaving for the buyer!) There are also empty water bottles on the nightstands in the picture of the master bedroom. The house did need a lot of work, but I'm sure it played a role in the house going on and off the market over a period of two years (with major drops in price) before we saw it and bought it. I still go back and laugh at those listing pictures and ask what we were thinking buying this house

We were on the market for a long time and I've seen some crazy listings! I saw one I remember where the whole room was perfectly staged except for a bunch of 24pks of water stacked up one on top of another (which first of all, is an eye sore... but more importantly tells me there's not enough storage if they need to stack up water in their living room).
I think it's common today to get professional pics taken for the listing.

That's an indoor room, with a floor? The poop was on the floor?
That reminds me of the mom swapping show when an obsessive cleaner switched into a house full of animals that pooped right on the floor.

Seriously. This was awesome. The captions were the best... I had to send it to my boss because I kept making this weird snorgling noise as I tried to stifle my laughter. He was like, "what is going ON over there?" LMAO! So now, here we both are... in our respective offices... snorgling as we continue to yell back and forth, "hey... did you see the one with the refrigerator holding up the deck?", etc etc.
Yep. Being very productive at work today, we are!

You must be talking about our old house because that was us..lol. There is 1 corner of our living room where we used to leave the bottled water packages and we didnt bother to move them. Granted, the house was small to begin with - it was only a 2 bedroom. We used Elliman and we had a prof photog.

Im under contract right now on our new house but while we were looking I couldnt believe that people actually kept their places the way they did. Let alone having people come into these houses. UGH! There was one listing we looked at online that we refused to go to. We couldnt even tell the size of the rooms because there was so much stuff! We saw one house where an entire bathroom was used as a litter box.  legit kitty litter in the tub. It was just nasty...

Nope there has to have been someone else who stacked water bottles too We only searched for houses with 4+ bedrooms because we were upgrading from my condo we outgrew. I guess the water thing is common haha
