Re: Real estate agent gift?
Oh lord no. I more ran away screaming.
But if you loved your agent, I still don't see buying him a monetary gift. He gets like 2% of the sale price of your house as a "gift"! A $25 gift card on top of that seems a little weird to me. Maybe something else thoughtful to show your appreciation?

yeah I figured he got a chunk of commission but I feel funny not buying him something, i know I am crazy I feel like I owe him so much. he's even called us to see how things are going after we moved in!! he was so good through the whole process!!

You don't need to get him a gift- but you should recommend him to other people!
But I do want to clear up the comission...you don't make the full percentage- You split that with your broker.

I saw that on the closing HUD document, it actually says what his company got. maybe you can answer this, why did the buyers agent get more then the sellers agent?? shouldn't it have been split down the middle? it was a few hundred more towards buyers agent

Re: Real estate agent gift?
That's odd...I have never seen the buyers agent get more on a listing - not that they can't - unless there was a bonus listed on the house..$500 to the person who sells it (this is rare but I have seen it a few times)
In your case- your agent
If you want I can check the listing- just fm me the mls#
I do know some listing agents get a listing at 6% and put it out as 2% and keep the difference for them- in that case 4%. But that normally covers costs associated with the listing (or it should- like a back page spread in a real estate mag or something)
It's not always an even split- but I normally see listings that pay less or not at all for a buyers agent (foreclosures rarely offer comission to buyers agent)

I'll FM you the number its weird becuase my agent had cut his commission by 1k because of an issue with the house the owners weren't willing to do anything about. yet on the statment his agency is listed as getting more $. I forgot to mention, it lists by sellers agency coldwell and mine prudential DE real estate

Re: Real estate agent gift?
We didnt buy our agent anything (it was my mom!) and she made a HUGE commission on our sale...she actually bought us a gift which is pretty typical.
If anything, I'd say to get a nice bottle of wine just to show you appreciate the help.

Re: Real estate agent gift?
The thought never crossed my mind when we closed, and we were stunned to get a nice crystal serving bowl from our broker as a gift after the closing.

Re: Real estate agent gift?
I didn't get my RA anything and it was actually the opposite. After we closed and got our keys to our house, we walked in the first time as homeowners to find a bottle of red wine sitting in our kitchen from our RA. That was really nice of her.

I have to agree that the best gift is a recommendation! I wouldn't accept a monetary gift.

The sign would belong to the sellers agent...just call the office and have them come get it

Re: Real estate agent gift?
We are planning on getting him and his wife a GC to dinner.
Probably Lombardi's on the Sound or Mama Lombardi's since they live in that area... or maybe Mario's in Setauket.
He was wonderful and went out of his way to do more than he really should have done... to make up for our subpar lawyer. I will be recommending him very highly to as many people as possible.

I think the same thing I would feel bad not getting her something. She is wonderful Daniel Lenard Prudential Smithtown I HIGHLY recommend her and will most likely get her a little something.

Re: Real estate agent gift?
We did! Our agent was truly wonderful and put up with a lot from us (well, more my DH b/c he has the tendency to fly off the handle at times )
Nothing crazy.....we bought her a gift basket filled with Starbucks goodies (she ALWAYS had a Starbucks cup with her when we went looking at houses). So it was a basket filled with different coffees, a coffee mug, cookies, etc.

Doubtful it is that much.
I recieve a salary but often will recieve small gifts from people to show appreciation, nothing wrong with it IMO!
To the OP I think a GC to a nice restaurant might be good
