Re: Real estate agent gift?
We did not get our REA anything. We did, however, write a letter to their broker.

The gift is the 10 grand they probly just made on your house!!
Lol...I wish...the house would have to be a million dollars to make that much ;)
Is that in today's market? I'm just curious.
I know what we paid for our house in 2005 it was not a million that's for sure... and my RE got a commission check for MUCH higher than $10k and that was even after she split it with the sellers agent.

Re: Real estate agent gift?
Our RE agent was great. We worked with her for a full year. My DH practically drove her nuts!
We actually wound up buying one of HER listings, so she was the listing and buying agent. I have no idea what she got paid, all that matters to me is that I'm in a house that I love.
We gave her two bottles of wine (red & white) and a gift cert. to a restaurant as a thank you for all of her hard work and patience.

Re: Real estate agent gift?
we loved our agent too...you should 100% write a letter to her office. we also gave her a giftcard to spafinder.com so she can use it anywhere. congrats on your move!

I used an average of 4% comission
but the agent still has to split with the broker who they work under
that would be $40k in comission on $1M Sale
$20K for the sellers broker - then the normal 50/50 split $10K each
$20K for the buyers broker- then the normal 50/50 Split- $10K each
now if the house was paying 6%- it would be a sale price of a little under $700k
the check you saw was not the agents check- the check is made out to the broker- then they split it how ever they do- I get 25%-75% depending on the listing type

If they are splitting it looks like they each get 20K in this scenario, or am I reading that incorrectly?

Re: Real estate agent gift?
My gift to my real estate agent was the commission she received! LOL
ETA: But she did give me a very pretty desk clock at my closing which was nice. She was a lovely woman but, I didnt think a gift on top of the commission was necessary.

Re: Real estate agent gift?
I've seen RE agents and mortgage brokers give housewarming gifts to the buyers at closing, but not the buyers giving gifts to agents. It cant hurt if you feel they went above and beyond yfor you but isnt necessary.
