your son won't even know what he is missing! Sounds like its more for you than him to go trick or treating! It depends on how close you are with the bride/groom. If its a close friend you should go IMO. Weddings on Halloween are fine, especially if at night, kids usually do not go trick or treating too late. It stinks that its out of state? far away or an hour away? maybe you can try and do both, since its on a saturday you can do trick or treating even earlier??
you can even trick or treat at friends and family the day before or after, you wont know the difference in ten yrs when you look at photos. lol.
I wo uldnt miss a good friends wedding for that !

I would go but would probably miss the ceremony to go trick or treating with my DD.
I could also see it being a problem finding a babysitter that night. We don't have family around and our regular babysitters have kids of their own.

AS an adult, Halloween means nothing to me, so I don't care and would be happy to attend the wedding, provided it was in the evening and my kids got a chance to go trick or treating before we had to go to the wedding.

I'd be excited! In fact, I'd hope it required dressing up in a costume!
FYI: I am not a Halloween-party-goer-outer...this might be why a wedding would be exciting!
I would want to answer the door for a few trick-o-treaters though AND when I have kids, I am sure this will change and I would NOT want to go to a wedding!

If I didn't have children, I wouldn't mind it. However, if I did or if my SS & SD were with us, i'd have to RSVP "no." They're old enough to go trick or treating at night and i'd want to be close by to make sure they're safe.
I love my friends & family so much, but my kids will always come first.

I am going to one this year. DC will be about 6months so... he/she won't understand it anyway. I'm honestly not sure of what time it's at. It's a Saturday.. night or day? I hope it's night but, I am cool with going either way. But, if DC was a little older.. I might be sad about it, if it was a day wedding.
There won't be a Halloween theme but there will be a fall/harvest theme and I think they are having goodies for the kids.

We had a halloween wedding  Only one family I invited had young children, and they came with them. It was an afternoon wedding though, so people had time to get home and be with their kids, unless they lived too far away.
We also invited all of our guests (we had a small wedding - 80 people) to a costume party rehearsal dinner the night before so everyone dressed up, including the kiddies that were invited.
I would have totally understood, however, if someone didn't want to come because they wanted to spend time with their kids on halloween.

Well, I'm a parent and LOVE Halloween- but don't do traditional trick or treating (I live in Manhattan).
Halloween is all day on Saturday so what's the big deal? Get him dressed up. Take him to the park or some local Halloween party. Take him to some neighbors early. Get your pictures done and go to the wedding. Little children doesn't need to go trick or treating at night.

I was in a wedding on Halloween last year (2008). It was fun, some people wore costumes, some didn't. It was a fun party either way!
The wedding was in Western NY where my in-laws live, so they ended up taking my kids out.
It worked out great for all, me and my DH had a night out at a great party, the kids went trick or treating and see grandma and grandpa and my IL's got to spend time with the kids!

of course it's for me. i don't care that he won't know what he's missing. I will know what he's missing. i'm his mother and i should be with him on halloween. my son comes BEFORE my friends. and it's OOS, so i will have to leave early--we're not going TOTing in the early morning hours.
i don't honestly understand your comment and what its purpose was. it's not you, so i don't know why you'd tell me what i should do.
before DS, it would have been great. now, not so much.
The purpose of my comment was to answer the question of the OP post/poll question "How do you feel". My first thought was how it would be different if one had kids or not and you were the first post on having kids in this situation and why one wouldn't want to go so that is how my thought process turned into a post to answer the question "How do you feel"
Looking at other posters on this topic, I am not the only one with these feelings. You are right though, I should not have said "you should" Its not my place to judge what you do, what I meant is that I would go but that does not mean its necessarily the right thing for you to do.
I was trying to think of ways that you could do both since you said this was a 'good friend.' Is your son invited to the wedding? If so, there is even more of a way you can make both happen if you wanted but that's up to you.

That's a tough one, because it's his first trick or treating and a big memory. DH and I love Halloween and it would be hard for me to decide what to do too. DS didn't really trick or treat last year, so I wouldn't want to miss this year's either.

if i was 12, yeah, i would be disappointed, but otherwise no.
and if i had kids, i would take them out prior to or after depending on the time of the wedding, or have them go with someone else. i say YAY wedding!

that's not an option for me--i'm very sentimental and being with him on halloween is like christmas. the day itself matters to me.
it's an OOS wedding, and DS will not be coming even if he's invited. we have no friends or family in my friend's state.
i will probably be missing the ceremony and just going to the reception unless it starts early, then i won't be going at all. even this year, where DS was 3 months old, halloween was a big deal to me.
but enough about me. this thread isn't about me. the OP asked a question and i gave my answer. thank you to those who gave me ideas, but none of them are possible. that's the thing with holiday weddings---some people can go, and some can't.

Fine before I had DS. Now I would only do a "late" evening wedding or find a way to do trick or treat that morning. I would not go OOT.
I don't have any kids yet, but this is how I think I will feel when I do. For now, it's fine with me because I don't do anything on Halloween.
