Good Morning,

Do you have other children in your lives, nephews-nieces-friend's children, that make you think about what you will or will not let your child do? If so, what?

--------------------------------------------------

My nephew was taught by my bil to say different inappropriate things. I will not let my husband teach the kids the names that this kid know for body parts or other items.

Re: QOTD----1/17/11

this is a great question. i am the youngest of 5 children and i have 11 nieces and nephews. SO, i have A LOT of things i know i do not want to do. But my number one is my one sis always says things like "if you do _____, i will ________." Then she NEVER follows through and her kids just laugh at her and just do what they want and they are only 4 and 2. This has caused many people in our family to not want to be around her children bc they just dont listen.

I hate when someone lets the child eat what they want, I know someone that only feeds there child chicken and french fries - all the time. no veggies.

I was taught to eat what's before me.

Re: QOTD----1/17/11

Oh yeah!!! We are the only ones in our group of family & friends that dont have children so we have seen it all!!!

I guess one of the biggest things is very good friends of ours has 2 children. I have known them for 5 yrs and DH has known them their whole lives. The DS is 17 and the DD is 14.

In just this past year do they acknowledge us when we come over and/or respond to us when we speak to them. It drove me crazy that their parents would allow them to basically ignore & dismiss us especially since these ppl are very good friends of ours!

My mother was a stickler for all types of manners and I am going to be that way w/our DC.

I am a guidance counselor so I work with kids everyday.

A few things they wont be having/doing:

Facebook

cellphone w/ texting option.

My students (some of them) spend all day texting during class! And the FB drama--forget it!

I agree about the food, I will not be the mother that makes each kid a different meal, or say oh they don't like that before a kid tries something. I have seen both of this in my and DH's family. I'm pretty impressed how my friends raise their kids though.

Re: QOTD----1/17/11

DH has 2 sisters, one has a 4 yr old boy and the other has an 8 yr old boy and a 6 yr old girl.

My BIL is extremely strict with my niece and nephew. We definitely don't want to be like him. His wife, DH's sister, is awesome with them so I would definitely want to be like her.

Then there is my other BIL and SIL, "the pushovers". My nephew rules the house and has since he was a year old. They chase him around the house to get him to eat, every "no" turns to "yes" after a tantrum, every demand is given into, etc. Additionally, his speech is not where it should be, he doesn't quite know his colors, numbers, alphabet, etc. Oh but he knows how to use an ipod and a ipad pretty perfectly. We look at each other whenever we see them as if to say "oh hell no!"
