PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT
Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents your, Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across.
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there ..... This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.
P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone.

While its a good idea, it wouldn't work in my house. Our bedroom is in the back of the house and the car is in the front. It's too far away to work!

I agree, it's a great idea. However, also having an alarm system that contacts the PD and FD is a truer deterent. And a he!! of a lot louder.

It might work to deter someone, but in the event of a medical emergency, I honestly don't think anyone will come knocking on your door because of the car alarm. I hear car alarms go off all the time and don't bother seeking out whose it is because it's just all too common.

It wouldn't work for me either since I live in a building and my car is parked in the basement garage. Also, I would never associate danger with a car alarm - I always think nuisance.

wouldn't work for me--bedroom is in the back. and honestly, i never look out the window when an alarm goes off. it happens way too frequently to pay any attention to.

its funny you say that my husband just told me the same thing the other day. The other thing I do is have my garage door opener next to me too, so when I hear something i open the garage door and ppress the panic button. I tested and it works like a charm. But my garage is right under my master bedroom

im a little bit of a nervous nelly and i have kept my keys next to my bed as long as i have been driving. i actually set the alarm off once when some kids were attempting to egg my brothers car. scared them away!!
i also keep a bat under my bed.  and the house phone and cell phone next to my bed as well.. (cell phone in case someone cuts the phone wire outside the house) i know im nuts... ive seen too many lifetime movies.

Our bed is just a few feet from the alarm pad.
DH keeps his cell phone on the night stand at night.
It's a good idea for the car keys.

If you think you are too far away for the alarm to work try this...
Put the alarm beeper under your chin and then click on the alarm. You head acts as a booster and makes the signal travel farther.
The dealer where I got my car told me this.
i would recommend this as a everyday thing but if you really need to do it, it works!

Very few people care about other people's car alarms anymore. In my neighborhood (and many others), nobody bothers looking if they hear an alarm...
They are way too common, and go off way too often for anyone to care about them....

This REALLY works. I use the panic button all the time, especially if I am in a parking lot and cant find my car, also when people get too close to my car, i set the panic button off. I think I made a ki almost poop his pants he jumped so high
