Re: Puggles

I may be wrong but I think first generation is the mating of the pug and beagle. The second generation would be puggle and puggle mating. Ladies?? Is that right? My puggle is absolutely wonderful with my two nephews who are under three. She is very sweet with them.

Re: Puggles

There isn't much research on them since they aren't recognized breeds.

Re: Puggles

My ds had a puggle for a day...poor thing was allergic to its hair. But the puggle and he got on famously. I think they are a good pick for little kids.
I think the best dog for kids to have is a Golden Retrtiever.

Re: Puggles

1st generation - Mutt
2nd generation - Mutt

My friend has 2 and they are great dogs and awesome w/ her kids - I don't know about the 'breed' in general though

Sorry - but the whole 'designer dog' thing is so ridiculous to me. My neighbor just brough over her "yorkie - Poo" (Yorkie/Poddle) She's the cutest thing EVER - but really ? She's a mutt, who invented the "yorkie poo"

The OP didnt ask your advice about "designer dogs". She just asked if they were good with children.
So you could have just ended your post with "my friend has 2 and they are good with kids".

the OP seems like they intend on buying a mutt... which means they are going to buy from a shop (i,e, puppymill) or support a backyard breeder....

hopefully they will opt to adopt.

but Marisa has an opinion and voiced it, thats what we do on these boards.

if the OP had mentioned they were looking into a lab or something she prob wouldnt have recieved a reply like that..... b/c "puggle" is NOT a breed.

and since there is no such thing as a puggle (people can call it that if they so choose, but its a mutt) there is no way of knowing how it will be with children. they have not been bred long enough to have a true study of that partcular mutt combos personality traits.....

-1st gen is a mutt, 2nd gen is a mutt. 1st gen means both parents were purebreds while 2nd gen means both parents were mutts

-there is no way of knowing how they are with children. it depends on the individual dog. sorry, dont want to repeat myself as to why, but i mentioned why in my previous reply.

if you do decide to obtain one of these dogs please go through petfinder. please dont buy from a pet shop and support the devastating puppymill industry or a backyard breeder. keep in mind no reputable breeder would EVER breed mutts. EVER.

Meaning, when someone posts a question, this always comes up, making the person feel guilty, etc..

Ron pinned the thread for everyone to see now and I am glad he did, it should be the first thing you see when you come on here, but the Poster was just asking a question, that is all!

i never made the OP feel guilty in my reply. i simply was explaining that there is no way of knowing how it will be with children, as theyve only been around for such a short period of time and are not a breed, so no research as been done on them. that is the FACTS of it.

I am sorry, but that is not all you said, you forgot this part:

"the OP seems like they intend on buying a mutt... which means they are going to buy from a shop (i,e, puppymill) or support a backyard breeder....

I am not trying to start anything here again, but I am just saying that this is why people get turned away and I was just stating a FACT

A puggle is mixed breed, NOT a designer breed. If you are interested in one, go on petfinders.com and do search on puggles up for adoption. There are plenty.

Re: Puggles

Again, not a vet and have absolutely no experience. I am a dog lover that is reasearching the right breeds for my life. I am researching breeders, going to dog shows, going to shelters, going through rescue groups in my area, reading and asking my friends online and IRL about their experiences. So, as a newbie who wants to ask questions I am so excited to be apart of the PET board.

The OP asked not whether a Puggle is a designer breed. She asked 1. what the difference was in the 1st and 2nd generation and 2. whether they are good with children.

The first few responses are fine - I get that they are mutts - not a bad word.

But bringing up the designer dogs and then throwing slings at people for being "puppymill breeder supporters" is really ridiculous...esp. since we JUST got the education post pinned. Maybe some people have been away for a while, but I thought we were making progress.

Sorry, but I side with MrsD's girl here. I hope others agree.

I hate to say this, but im sure dogs that have been researched to be good with kids can turn on a kid at any time. So you really cant trust any dog with a kid (especially a young one), even if its a recognized breed.

I never voice my opinion about things but this puppymills $hit is going to far. I agree with you guys about puppy mills its a very sad thing but just leave it alone already. You guys really do make people feel bad about buying dogs.

I hate to say this but i feel no matter what we do puppymills will always stay in business.

youre absolutely right about the first thing. i was attacked by two goldens as a child, they are supposed to be one of the best with kids. i just mean theres been no research on them so theres REALLY no knowing.

as far as the puppymill "$hit" well, i havent been around much lately but i can assure you its not "$hit".

and if ppl buy without knowing OK, but if they buy while they DO know about mills, then imo they sHOULD feel bad.
