Prom night help.

My daughters senior prom is coming up and its on a Thursday night (ugh). Her and a bunch of couples are looking for something fun to do but coming up empty. The prom is in Bethpage and they are looking for things to do that night or the next day. Suggestions? Obviously the city is an option but they are looking for things to do on the island also.

After my senior prom we went and played laser tag in all our finery. It was ridiculous but a lot of fun!

ETA: After that we all stayed over a friend's family's beachfront house.

After his prom my stepson went to a club in the city that had a special "after prom" event. If I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure he told me there were kids from other schools there as well. I'm not sure, but it might have been the Copacabana

Thank you. A lot of kids on Long island do the Hampton House rental thing, but they don't rent to kids and I'd be liable for anything that might happen there. So not happening.

I've considered getting them a hotel room, just not sure what they can do after since it ends at midnight I think. I can't find any cruises that go out on a Thursday night unless I charter one and I don't have enough people for that. Do comedy clubs operate on Thurdays? I'll have to look into that and the club thing.

My daughter and all her friends camped out at Nickerson Beach, on the camping grounds. I had to sleep in the car as a chaperone, but it was a lot of fun.

I did two proms— one for my school and one for my HS BF’s school. We went to the Blue Note for his and then we rented hotel rooms with other friends for mine.

What are their ideas? I dont remember any of the moms making a plan for us. We figured it out ourselves. Hopefully they can come up with something fun!

They've asked me for help. Anything that will require a reservation will need a credit card and none of them are old enough to have one. They were thinking about going to Long Beach for the day (the day after) but I've never been. Are there fun things to do there or is it just a beach? Has anyone stayed at the Long Beach hotel?

Taking the ferry to Fire Island for a beach day would be fun!! Or going to the city and going to Governor's Island. I guess it just depends on what they are into though. I'm out of touch with typical teens since mine has special needs and came home right after prom last year!

Our district does an "after prom" thing at the high school where they serve breakfast, etc. until like 3am. That alleviates the "partying" after prom

I wish the school would do something like that so there is less stress to find something to do. What is at Governors island? I've never been there. The city in general is always a backup. Thanks.

Governor's Island is a nice little island to hang out on, have a picnic. Amazing views of lower Manhattan and the freedom tower, and the Statue of Liberty. You can walk the "hills" and they have these huge slides that even adults like. They rent bikes, and surrey bikes (the ones that hold like 4 people) so you bike around the island. They have kayaking and food trucks. An old military castle/fort. We love it there...but...teens might think it's lame? I don't know lol!

Re: Prom night help.

what about midnight/jackpot bowling. They can go all dressed up - might be fun. This is something they have anyway so I would think no credit cards or parents need to be involved

I wonder if you had enough people it may be worth it for one of the escape room places to stay open - you would need to ask

Oh yes, this would be fun! Especially at a place like Bowlmor or whatever it's called in Melville. The All Star in Riverhead is really nice too!

Do kids actually go to this though? I feel like it would have been a hard “no” when I was 18.

OP, we went on some lame cruise around the city after our prom. It was horrible. My best friend picked it and we wanted to kill her. She’s still my best friend and every once in a while I’ll mention how she sh!t all over prom.

Luckily our limo driver was a hot mess and upon hearing about the disastrous cruise, he promptly took us to 7-11, bought us all the beer and wine coolers we could ever want and drove us around the city for a few hours.

The bowling thing sounds like a blast to me, but I'm pretty sure she will think I am super lame for suggesting it. Governors island or long beach sound fun, just need to find a hotel for them, and none will seem to allow an 18 year old to check in. Don't know how I can get around that. But since we're eastern Suffolk and its in Nassau and they plan on going that direction the next day, it doesn't seem to make sense to me for them to drive all the way home.

you'd probably have to go to the hotel earlier in the day and check in for them

Yes, they do.

Also, Our school only allows the kids to ride a chartered bus from the school to the prom and back. No private limos or transportation. They do a red carpet announcement of each person coming out of the building while the parents take pics. Also, each student is searched before getting on the bus so there are no drug concerns. We are in a small district, and the whole prom thing is actually pretty well organized.
