It is recommended that you start before becoming pregnant. I started 6 mos before we started ttc

I was taking them sporadically before I got pregnant, now I take them everyday.

Re: Prenatals
I have been taking them since we started trying. You definitely should start before just to get your folic acid in. They say to start at least three months before

My sister's an OB and when I told her we were going to start in 6 months to a year she told me to start taking them. She said to take that and a folic acid, it won't help and if anything will make your hair and nails kick a$$!
I just read an article that folic acid before pregnancy can help you lower the chance of autism in your child...could be true, could not but any chance it could help made me feel better.

Re: Prenatals
the only "pre-conception" meeting I had with my OB was just a phone call telling her I was going off BC... she said "ok good luck, relax, enjoy and just start a pre-natal." so I think it's safe to say you can start taking it when you start trying.

Re: Prenatals
They're just vitamins like any other multivitamin, except it has levels in it appropriate for pregnancy (like more folic acid and iron, for example). I was on it for years since that's how long it take to get here ... I didn't take them while doing surrogacy, but then went back to them obviously when I started IVF.

I have been taking a multi-vitamin for years. When we knew we were ready to start TTC I switched to Prenatals. I get the Target brand they are super cheap and have way more Folic Acid than a regular nulti-vitamin.

Yes you should start taking them now. I started taking them as soon as we started trying. I take the gummy kind- which are not nearly as nutritious as the pill-type vitamins and probably have artificial sweetners in them but they are yummy! And I actually remember to take them. When I have to swallow a pill I always forget!
