Practical moms... how do you feel about impractical gifts?

I for one, really dislike impractical gifts.
WWYD with a $150 keepsake infant silver spoon from tiffany?

Oh yeah, me too. I have a box full of stuff that he will never use in the attic.
I just find it a waste of money & space.

My DS got 7 wall crosses for his christening !!!!

5 of which say BRANDON !!!

What do you do with 7 WALL CROSSES ( not to mention we are not "overly" religious)

As for the spoon, I can trade you for a cross

I gor 3 Christening day picture frames and two wall crosses for DD's christening. I have 9 zillion bajillion stuffed animals alllll over the place.

I like to give stuff to the poor boxes unless I really love it or I have a good use for it.

Return that spoon for some nice silver earrings or necklace. You probably won't be spending much money on yourself anymore.

I do appreciate all gifts, but these type of gifts are a shame, because someone spent a lot on a Tiffany's spoon that will never get used.

not a fan of them. Sorry, but I'd try and return it or resell it on ebay.

Returned Tiffany gifts rec'd for Ryan's baptism and put the credit toward diamond earrings for myself.
I did this b/c I knew the gifts were regifts from these people and my son has no use for a porcelein tooth holder
I put a little $$ in his bank acct to make up for it

I return them. I hate to see an expensive gift wasted. I got Lenox baby "china" for my shower... Besides the fact that it looked more like a dog dish than something a person would eat out of, do people really think you're going to serve strained carrots out of those things???

I have kept all of that. And I have alot of it.. I plan on giving it to DDs or DS when they have a family of their own.

I have stuff from when I was a baby that was given to my parents/me and I just love that stuff. It's special to me.

I am REALLY happy most of our family is too poor to give any gifts, let alone impractical ones

my main problem is getting stuff I just don't like....but as far as "keepsake" gifts go...is it "wrong" to ask for a gift reciept? I mean, NO ONE needs 7 crosses. even Jesus would agree

we did get a Tiffany china infant feeding set (plate bowl cup) which I have displayed with our other "fine" china. but that has been pretty much it.

Mostly it annoys me. Especially if I can't return it, resell it.

But I get the sentiment.

Speaking of.. I still have my baby ring and now my daughter has one too... why do we need these?

It depends on what it is! I would def return a silver spoon from Tiffany's.

I just got a personalized plate from one of DH's cousins for Alexandra. It's one for decoration, not to eat on. It's ok, but not really my style and it doesn't match her room. Luckily, they live in Syracuse so I don't have to worry about them coming over and not seeing it in her room. It will probably sit in her closet for years!

Have you met my MIL? She is the queen of crap. I either give it away, sell it, or if it is a keepsake, put it in a bin.

I returned all Tiffany's stuff (thankfully they had receipts) - and got a credit. I used the credit to buy a charm with his name engraved on it.

I hate impractical gifts!!!

Some things I might keep as a keepsake, depending on who it's from. Other stuff i would probably either returen or eventually donate.

stuffed animals are my arched nemesis'.
As we speak I'm waiting for my sister (childless) to bring over the "stuffed" mermaid and stuffed seahorse that she got for DD. I will add this to the 4foot giraffe she got her last christmas.
