Powder Formula Users ?
How do you get all the powder to dissolve? I decided to try a few powder bottles to see if DS will tolerate it now and I keep getting clumps at the bottom of the bottles. I am making 6 oz at a time. I just don't remember that happening before when we were using powder when he was first born (making 3-4oz bottles). I use Nestle Good start.

Re: Powder Formula Users ?
I found using room temp water and shaking it up A LOT made it work.
I know people stir too.
Or you can get a formula pitcher and make a batch at a time!

Yeah that's what I have been doing now (room temp water and shaking it a lot). I was trying to avoid doing that since DS has gotten gassy with the powder in the past, but now I'll just try and make his bottles ahead of time so the bubbles can settle. I do have the formula pitcher but actually found there were MORE clumps in that because you are making a bigger batch and you can't shake it.

Ooohh, I used to shake it before I put it in the fridge.
Doesn't it have like a filter type thing on the top?

I have the Dr. Brown's one- it has the big spinny thing that goes up and down but I'm pretty sure if I turned it upside down to shake it I would spill it all over the place If he does well on the powder I will probably invest in a Rubbermiad type container that I could shake.

Ok, I just searched formula pitcher at BRU and they don't have online the one I had, it had a blue top and didn't look as nutty as that Dr. Brown's one and you could definately shake the one I had

Yeah I think the people at Dr. Brown's company get off on putting all sorts of wierd parts on their products I'm sure I can find something to mix it that hopefully will work better. I just didn't know if I was missing something because I was having to shake it so much-kwim?? But apparently not!!

Re: Powder Formula Users ?
I frequently make big batches in my blender (24 or 32 oz at a time) if I'm in for a busy day. i use the 'stir' setting and get no clumps! the bubbles settle while its in the fridge, i'll just pour a bottle out about 1/2 hour before ds needs it, so it gets to room temp. in a rush i just run it under hot water...

Is it just me? I just slightly shake or stir mine, and it dissolves, in room temperature water.

What kind of formula do you use? I didn't have this problem with the Similac, but now I am using the Good Start and it seems so much worse!!

Re: Powder Formula Users ?
I use good start. I make bottles as I need them with room temp bottled water. What I found works GREAT is not shaking with the nipple on...I use the flat travel caps on it. You can shake it so much better!!

Yes I use Similac. Maybe that's why. Mine dissolves with a few stirs or gentle shakes.

Re: Powder Formula Users ?
I'm a bad bad mommy.... I just leave the couple clumps in the bottle I figure who cares, since it's only about 5% of the powder (so the concentration isn't really affected) and they're too big to pass through the nipple

I use Good Start and this is what I do. Never any clumps for either kids. Dr Browns, remove guts and aadd powder to water, shake with travel cap vigirously.

Re: Powder Formula Users ?
I used this formula mixer from BRU. I made a pitcher usually the night before, for the next day so the bubbles had time to dissipate.

Same here. Sometimes a clump might get stuck in the nipple and prevent the milk from coming out and I would use my fingers to squeeze the nipple to clear the block.
