Re: POLL: spinoff to smoking (anonymous)

I want to beat people about the face when I see that.

so, no. I don't.

my parents were smokers for years, and stopped smoking in the house when I was young and the studies showing how bad it was started coming out.

it's lazy, disgusting and EXTREMELY unfair to the child.

kill yourself, fine.

have a little more care and concern for your offspring.

We aren't smokers but I curse someone out if they dare smoke around my child or get in my vehicle and start smoking.

How many times have I driven past a mini-van with kids in the back, and the mother or father is puffing away, and the window is open like 1/2 and inch???

Come on already!

I quit smoking in December of 2006. While smoking I didn't smoke in the car. Now that I have DD I can't imagine smoking anywhere near her and it bothers me to walk through the smokers at the entrance to stores when I have her with me.

As I said DH has in the car with DD in it - but it has only been on the rare occasion that we are on a long road trip.

In the 21 months since she has been here - maybe 5 times? If that many.

Not a biggy in my book.

Oh - I might add - he basically hangs himself out the window when he does as well Chat Icon

Re: POLL: spinoff to smoking (anonymous)

no way. Both Dh and I are in agreement with that. No smoking in the house (which we don't anyway) and certainly no smoking with kids in the cars. I personally don't feel comfortable smoking around kids. Even when I'm out with my friends who have kids I try to walk away from the child.

I don't want to sound rude but wouldn't it be better for all involved if he just pulled over?

I am sure he hangs himself out that far b/c he feels bad and he knows how unhealthy it can be for your daughter.

I know it's an addiction and not easy to just "wait" with the urges...

but he is also potentially putting himself in harms away...especially putting his head out the window on the road! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: POLL: spinoff to smoking (anonymous)

I am not a smoker, never have been but have to chime in and say NO ONE should be smoking in a car with a child in it.

Children don't deserve to pay for the stupid things adults do and smoking is one of them. Being confined a car with a smoker breathing out second hand smoke, esp to a child, is harmful and unfair.

Sorry but children deserve love and protection, not to pay the price for adult's foolish choices.

Nah - for the couple of times he has done it - not a big deal. Ok - his head might not be out the window, but his cigarette is.
Honestly smoking 5 cigarettes in the car is not going to kill her Chat Icon Chat Icon
Like I mentioned - it is a rare occasion not something that is done every day, or every week, maybe driving down to Florida and driving back. Thats all.
And we have only done that once

I am a smoker and although I know how HORRIBLE it is, havent quit yet.

I have NEVER smoked in the car with my daughter. I pull over, get out and move away from the car. When we are home, I go out on the porch and smoke during the day, make sure I wash my hands and spray with febreze when I come back in. Its actually an annoying process, you would think I would get annoyed enough to quit..no such luck just yet. Chat Icon

This is what my sister does too, she won't smoke in her car (even if her daughter isn't in the car) she actaully has designated "smoking clothes" she puts on when she wants to go outside to have a smoke, then she comes back in and changes her clothes, washes her hands/face before she'll touch her daughter.

Re: POLL: spinoff to smoking (anonymous)

OK so I must admit unfortunately I started smoking again 2 months after DD was bornChat Icon I don't smoke as much as I used to before and I never ever ever smoke around her. I go out to my balcony during the day and when I'm finished I wash my hands brush my teeth etc. If I go out with DD for a walk or whatever I dont smoke....even if we are walking outside. I was a heavy smoker before I got pregnant and I never smoked around my nephew or other kids. It's just selfish IMO and I don't get it. I do know people who are pregnant and still smoke....I understand where the urge comes from but at the same time for me the urge was not enough to get me to smoke in front of DD or anyone elses kid.

ETA: I don't smoke in my car even when DD is not inside just because lets me honest cigarette smell sticks liek crazy and I don't want her carseat smelling like cigarettes or her going in the car and smelling the stale smoke.

I agree with this 100%

Even just one time is inexcusable, IMHO.

ETA: I am not a smoker, I would never do that if I was. I think it should be illegal and when I see people doing it - it literally makes me sick to my stomach. Like an above poster said - harm yourself, spare others - esp your children.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO smoking in our house or cars!!

I don't even want someone who recently smoked to hold my baby!
Maybe that's extreme, but if I can smell it on you, why should she breathe in that toxic smell!
