For now, but now is going to last at least another 8 years. We plan on selling once DH retires from the service in 8 years, and then buy our forever home.

Definitely our forever home.

Even if we hit the jackpot or started making an insane amount of money - I don't think we'd leave. We both grew up in a forever home and can't imagine moving from our existing home. Especially when/if we have kids.

We are in a great neighborhood, great SD.

It definitely can be our "forever" home but who knows what the future holds.

We are in what we think will be our forever home. It's exactly what we always pictured oueselves living in, has enough room for a kid or two, great schools, great family-oriented neighborhood. The only drawback to the house is that my kitchen is 6x8. No joke. Chat Icon

I said "for now" but "now" may be a decade or so. We bought a 3-br ranch in a great neighborhood, and we could definitely stay for awhile. But once we have older children, I'd like to have something bigger.

It is definitely our "for now" home. We plan to stay here about 5-8 years and then move on to our forever house. We want to live in a house big enough for a large family (god willing) with a lot of land, and for now we bought a decent-sized house at a price we could afford.

Since we have no intention of living in Tex-@ss forever, this is our "for now" home. With that said, we have lived in this house for 10 years and just finished major remodeling. I can't see us leaving anytime soon. (Sorry Tricia) Chat Icon

I think it is our "for now" home, but you never know. We say that eventually we would like to move out of the city, but I could not imagine doing that any time soon.

Re: Poll.. "Forever home" or "For now" home...

Although my DH waas born in raised in our house, I have tho say I think it is our "for now' home. We got the house for a great price fom my MIL after we got married, and DH did alotof work in it, but there are alot of things I really don't like about it. I am grateful for it, and I am sure we will be here for awhile, but not "forever". Also depends if we have kids,e tc...the house does have 3br, but 1 bath. We'll see?!

This is our forever home. We sold our "for now" home and bought this home for cash. We love this house and have no mortgage so we plan on staying until the kids are out of college. We are very lucky and truly appreciate our fortune.

Our home is our "For now" home. We haven't decided if we will build on or move. Not any time soon though, maybe in 5 years.

It *could* be our forever home, we have 4-bedrooms and 3 full baths with a decent yard, 2 car garage, etc.... But it won't be. I am not in love with my house (basically hate the layout) and once we get it finished with the renovations, we will eventually sell when its the right time. We always keep our eyes open, but we are in no rush.

For now home. EVen though we've put a lot of work into it, I'd move in a heartbeat if it was that easy but it's not. Now that I live here 5 years, I can easily count 6 or 7 things that make this my for now home.

Re: Poll.. "Forever home" or "For now" home...

I answered other. We bought a house that was big enough and we liked enough for it to be our forever home, however, we are not opposed to selling it and trading up. We bought when interest rates and home prices were low, so I'm sure we could easily see a profit, especially after all the work we put into our house for virtually no money.

Forever... DH & I didn't like the idea of a starter home, but at that time it was our only option. Thankfully something swayed us in the opposite direction & we found our forever home.

Re: Poll.. "Forever home" or "For now" home...

It could potentially be our "Forever home" - it is definitely big enough. But, it's not the home I always envisioned myself living in. It's a bi-level and I never wanted to live in a bi-level. I wanted a colonial...bedrooms separate from the rest of the house. We settled on this house because it had an apartment for my IL's...I figure...and yes this will sound terrible...once they pass on we can move into the house I really want.

Definately our For Now Home. We're temporarily living in NC for DH's job and bought this house for only 3 years. We'll be moving back to NY in a few years and hopefully THAT purchase will be our forever home Chat Icon

What do you have?

We have our "for now" home. It is a small cottage that is only 750 square feet and one bedroom. I love it. Really, I do. It is like a condo but with property in a neighborhood.

I bought it in the height of the market and for now I owe more than it's worth.. dumb economy. If the market swings or we win the lottoChat Icon We could put a second floor on and really live here for a long time. I don't want a big house and I love the "cottage" look. It is just so different than other homes that you see.

But since I don't see the market swinging back to what it was... It is our "for now" home and we will most likely take a loss on itChat Icon We should have rented and waited for the market to change.. but, who could predict what happened..

Soo what kind of home do you have? If you have a "for now" home.. when do you plan on leaving and how scared are you of the current market never swinging back?

I absolutely love your kitchen, and would love to see more pics of your house. i had an itty-bitty house too in lindenhurst near the water. i loved it too.
That home was a "for now" home, and the one i am in now was purchased for that too. my next home, i plan on being a "forever" home.

you asked for it!!Chat Icon Check out my albums

Re: Poll.. "Forever home" or "For now" home...

i answered other b/c i am unsure. when we bought it almost 2 years ago, we were sure it would be our 'for now' home, with a plan to move out in 5 years or so. The main reason for this is that it is not condusive for a child past the age of 2 or so because of the layout - the upstairs is a loft master bedroom (no door) with a smaller bedroom off of it ('perfect for the baby', as a family member says.) However, we also have the space to build out so we could essentially, refi in a few years if we wanted to. We don't have kids now and don't plan to for a few years so there's not really a rush.

Re: Poll.. "Forever home" or "For now" home...

it could be a "forever" home, but probably won't be for us.

We didn't but a starter, and I don't think "for now" fits us, but I don't see us staying here for good. (4bedroom, 2.5 bath colonial)

I abhor the idea of starting over somewhere else though, after all the work we put into this house making it "ours". I think by the time we're done with all the projects, it will be time to move! Chat Icon
