Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I'm really conflicted about this. I'm very uncomfortable about my breasts, I don't care for them to be touched and am struggling with the decision to breastfeed or not. Can you share your choice and your reason why? Thanks!

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I said no in the poll, but I do plan on pumping. I'm not really comfortable with breastfeeding, so I thought that pumping was the best solution for me.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

With DS I decided to try breastfeeding as long as I could (meaning as long as I had milk).
Well, my milk came in and DS had no problems latching on so we went with it for about 3 months. I would have gone longer but I started a new job and did not feel comfortable asking to pump at work.
I think its a totally personal decision to make

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

i was really torn about what i was going to do. I knew that i wanted to give it a try and specifically try pumping over bfing.

Well... it lasted a week. I'm comfortable with my breasts and all, but i wasn't comfortable bfing or pumping in front of others. Well since we've been home, there have been people at our house non stop so it was very hard to do. Plus i want my husband to be able to feed him night or day to give me a break. However what i didn't realize is that even if he gets up to do a night feeding, i'd still have to get up to pump.

It was hard for me. I'm not going to lie. It's a lot of work and since i wasn't 100% dedicated to it, i decided to stop. It was starting to wear on me and before going into it, i said that if it affected my mental stability... i'd end it right there. Well that's what happened. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think you have to see what happens. Give it a try if you want and if it doesn't work, at least you tried. Chat Icon

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I am definitely planning to breastfeed. I really want to be able to provide my son with the nourishment he needs. TO ME, that is the most important thing. I've heard it can be difficult but I am committed to making it work. I also plan to pump so that DH can feed him and I can continue to breast feed when I go back to work after 3 months.

I would really like to breastfeed--mostly for the nutritional and immune system benefits--not to mention the financial ones! Formula is expensive! Chat Icon

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I don't want to nurse...but I'm going to pump and supplement with formula.

eta: I've struggled with this as well, I was going to just bottle feed...but after some thought, I've decided to pump for at least the first 6 weeks....we'll see how it goes. I'm gonna give it a shot.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

We are taking a breast feeding class to educate ourselves (actually this Wednesday) and to make sure this is truly something I can commit myself to the way I feel it should be done. I would like to give it my best shot but if it doesn't work out, I know there are other options.

I am tired of lectures from family and outsiders telling what is best for my child. I know what's best for my child. I'm a big girl now!

I am going to give breastfeeding my best shot. It was a decision I made years before getting pregnant, I just want to try it and see how it goes. I will also pump so that my DH and others can feed the baby and if need be I will supplement with formula. Guess we'll see how it all goes. Chat Icon

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I thought it would be weird and wasn't sure how it would work out with DD, my #1, but it was awesome and I really look forward to it with #2.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I'm going to try my best to breastfeed, but I'm 100% okay if it doesn't work out.
I will still be using a bottle, even if I breastfeed.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I don't plan to, never really was interested in it. One of my main reasons is I am struggling now not taking certain meds for pain, so I want the ability right away to be able to live freely and not have to worry anymore about what I ingest. Another reason is I feel after being stressed out for the 9 mths of pg, I can't imagine wanting anymore responsibility than I have had all this time. So the odds are not for me.

However, I do sometimes have thoughts of pumping just for health reasons for the baby (immunity, etc). But they are fleeting thoughts. I wasn't breast fed, and don't have any friends or family members who have done it so I don't feel any pressure from anyone that's for sure.

I feel the same way, not that I have had a baby yet, but I know I would feel this way.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I didnt with #1 b/c I didnt feel comfortable doing it ! #2 I did it and had a great bond until I had to have 4 teeth pulled and I did both BFing and formula and eventually lost my milk which I was sad about so hopefully I can BF this one as long as I can

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I would like to breastfeed. Im really self concious about my body and i always have been since i was raped in 1997. I definately want to give it a try for nutritional, bonding, and immunity reasons. I am not sure i will be able to do this in front of others but i guess we will see. If anything im definately thinking about pumping so dh can be apart of the bonding expierence of feeding the baby.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I felt the exact same way. I'm very modest Chat Icon But I wanted to just try BFing...b/c it was best for the baby and if I couldn't do it, I couldn't do it and I promised not to beat myself up about it. My family actually couldn't believe I even considered it.

As it turned out, I ended up really not minding it at all. I only BF'd for 3 months b/c I wouldn't do it in public so I felt trapped in the house...plus I felt like 3 months was enough, but I'm so glad I did it. Its really so rewarding. It can't hurt giving it a try!!! And if you don't like it so you stop, thats it!!!

eta: as weird as it sounds, I think the BFing actually made me more comfortable w/my body.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I too have very sensitive breasts/nipples and hate the idea of BFing but I am going to try like he11 to get over it. I really want to do it. I am planning on pumping too so if it doesn't work I will just pump.

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

i am going to try (NO idea how i will feel about it once i start) but i have no problems giving pumped milk or formula if that's what i need to do. i'm going to be very open minded about it.

I didn't latch with my DD, I only pumped and fed. It was good for me because I felt the same way you did plus I was ble to measure how much she was drinking. Plenty of women feel the way you do Chat Icon

Re: Poll: Are you planning to breastfeed?

I plan on giving it a try. But I don't have strong feelings about BF/pumping or formula so I'm fine going either way. I also have no intention of BF in front of people other than DH so that may cause a problem but I also wouldn't mind pumping so I can try to avoid any problems!
