You guys need more options 
Just reading this makes my head hurt. If your child is sick you want a medical professional who can handle your child.
We have three afterhour pediatric type clinics that all have multiple locations and a couple of hospitals have special pediatric ER units.
I had to use one when I moved here with AJ. She was very sick. I had no other options since we hadn't picked up a doctor yet. The ER was great. Very kid oriented. She was less than a year old so she didn't care about the slides and other things they had for the kids, but it was impressive that they had this totally separated area for Pediatric care. Including rocking chairs, nursing rooms, large areas for parking strollers and coffee at an elevated area.
Hope you guys find options.
Oh a side note, the night time pediatric place I went to with AJ once was GREAT while we were there, blah blah but also were the ones who told us her swab was negative for H1N1 when she was positive. Told us it was just a nasty cold. Mother's instinct had me taking her to the normal doc.
But PM places are great for urgent care and I think in a dire circumstance they do a great job.

PM Pediatrics no longer taking insurance - did anyone else get this letter?
I only have good things to say about PM Peds in north babylon. We've taken DD there a couple of times on the weekends when she was very sick and we didn't want to wait until Monday to take her to the ped. They've been great every time. No letter received about insurance, but we have Oxford, not Cigna.

We have open access plus. So I was curious. I checked their website and it is listed. I called the new one by me in Carle place and asked and they said they take all cigna plans. Which location did the letter come from? I did not get a letter. It isn't one of the govn't plans is it?
We have open access plus too, not a gov't plan. Their site still says they take it but I don't know when they are going to stop - I don't think it's location based, they will probably all stop taking it.
The other walk-in clinics are not the same. They aren't open as late or on holidays, and the doctors aren't used to child patients. PM Ped was great, and at this point I'd rather make my child wait a day or two to go to my regular pediatrician rather than to to an ER. My experiences with ERs are aaawwwfffuuullll.
I'm going to call tomorrow and ask why they are dropping it. I don't expect the customer service/desk person to really know but I'm going to try anyway.
I called the one in carle place yesterday who told me they had no idea what I was talking about. I have a feeling PM peds wanted more and cigna probably said no. Or they didn't like what cigna was paying them.

Sorry IMO the urgent places are not the same. Pm peds is open 12-12 weekdays and 10-12 weeks and holidays. The urgent places by me close around the same time my ped office does and only open from 9-5 weekends (my own peds office is open sat 9-2). If you think pm peds misdiagnosis don't ask about the regular places. I know one ped made that comment bc they pushed their after hours clinic which a) doesn't take my insurance and b) refused to strep my child 2 years ago leaving her very sick until we saw our ped on Monday saying her had a sinus infection.
Most urgent care places do treat kids but are not fully equipped for kids. Drs are often family drs (treats adults and kids) vs ped ER drs. To me, I use it for weekends when my ped is closed and I need a strep test, urine culture, or ear infection check. If I fear something serious I go to a good hospital. Pm peds also gives Iv fluids. I do not believe the other places do. So now I am pretty much stuck with a $200 copay bc my urgent care place is basically open when my peds office is. I would never choose an urgent when my peds office is open. Now if it is nighttime I can only go to the ER, bc my only other night choice has been removed. (I didn't get the letter but based on info here....it sounds like that might be the case). They also just opened one up the road from me.
Ok you don't have to jump down my throat just trying to give options. There are a few late night urgent not cares near me that have a ped on late hours and that's all I was saying. You don't want to use them no problem. They have been great for me the few times I have used them.
Actually I wasn't "jumping down your throat" just pointing out that around me there aren't those options and why they weren't. The urgent places close at 9 (my ped closes at 8). There isn't a real alternative to pm peds in this area. That is great if you have them. Wish there were good ones here.

Well around me. Pm peds has a few locations. My peds office has some after hour thing with several other peds but they were awful and misdiagnosed my daughter and refused to strep her (she had strep). There are a few regular urgent care bug the mainly treat adults. They can treat kids but it is only a very small part of their work. Pm peds is exclusively ped ER drs and only treats children. There are some ped ERs but...in my insurance...my urgent care copay is $40 but my ER copay is $200. The nice thing about pm peds is tha they are open 7 days until midnight, and weekends as early as 10. So it is helpful when my ped is closed. Plus it is up the street from us.

I live on the Nassau Suffolk border and there are a few so I'd call around because more and more are popping up.

Unfortunately my DH's firm switched to in network only and to cigna. We liked our old insurance. The two choices on the list by me are basically the same hours...stinks. Hope the person was right that they are just renegotiating. We usually end up needing it Saturday nights or times that the other places are closed. Also the two closer ones friends had negative experiences with. Just stinks esp bc we pay an obscene amount for insurance but the quality seems to be shrinking. Very frustrating.

BUMP ... anyone else get the letter that YES, PM Peds WILL continue to take your insurance?  We have Cigna and PM Peds will continue to take Cigna.
As we suspected, likely negotiations over reimbursements!

I never got either letter...but...when this came out I checked on cigna's site and they were gone. Checked again recently and they were back.
Interested the carle place one doesn't show up.
