Taking someone off your health insurance
If someone puts their spouse on their plan in the beginning of the year, can they just take them off at any given time within that year or does the renewal time have to roll around again the following year in order to do it?

renewal time or a life changing event such as birth/lost job/etc.. (there are not to many events to do mid year changes)

You can remove anytime, on the first of the month. You can only add during open enrollment.

That's not necessarily true - that depends on the insurance company. I had my DH on my insurance a while back while he was in the fire academy. I was only able to take him off midyear when he got a job (life-change event) and I had to send them the copy of his employment offer letter along with the letter showing when his insurance would start.
