Please recommend your thermometer

I need to buy a new one since both of mine apparently suck after what happened last night.

And how is the new temporal thermometer? I know you have to take an infants thermometer rectally but before I stick a thermometer up his butt I like to do a quick read to make sure I even need to go there, KWIM? DS #1 is old enough now I can use the ear thermometer but I can't do that yet with the little guy...

Re: Please recommend your thermometer

Well what I would do is get one of those head strip ones. THey reallly do work pretty well. Then when it seems to shoot up on that fast, or indicates a temp, do a rectal. I also use my lips, I can tell so much simply from doing that on a daily basis.

The rectal one I have is the VICKS rectal only. It is great, quick read too.

I usually put my lips against his forehead as well. I know when TJ gets a fever his hold body, hands, feet, ears and face are hot. And Derek did feel warm last night that is what scared me and when I kept getting different readings it didnt help. I didnt want to make the wrong decision.

I found the ear ones are terrible, my head one is really great for something so non invasive. And the VICKS rectal only I found to be excellent and easy to use. You did not make the wrong decision.Chat Icon

ETA - When I say the head one, I mean that strip that changes colors.

Re: Please recommend your thermometer

I don't like my temporal artery thermometer. I don't think it's accurate... different ready each time.

I LOVE the Vick's 10 second digital rectal thermometer. You can get at BRU.
