Playtex Drop Ins
I am trying to put together my registry and need help deciding on bottles. I originally was set on the Born Free based on many friend's recommendations. However, someone recently was telling me that she used the Playtex Drop Ins and loved them. I've been researching and there are tons of great reviews. For those that have used them, my question is, aren't they difficult to read when trying to determine how much the baby has consumed?
Any input on either the Born Free or Drop Ins would be very helpful.

I have only used the drop-ins and I never had any problems reading how much was left...When the "baggie" gets sucked together and you want to know how much is left, you just unscrew the cap for a second and the drop-in goes back in shape and you can easily read it  ...I love the drop ins ( never used Born-Free, so can't compare for you  )

Same with us - I LOVED the convenience, especially when you are out and about for the day - you just need extra liners and nipples. One thing that I found very handy was that the nipples fit perfectly into the hard pacifier cases, so I would just keep a few in the diaper bag with me.
I used them and only them the whole time with DD and plan on doing the same when this baby arrives!

I registered for both. When my DD was born a mth ago, at the hospital they had her on similac with a latex nipple, very similar to the Playtex drop in nipple. When she came home I tried to use the born free, but she could barely suck any liquid out of them, the nipple was terrible for her. DH and I even tried the born free and we thought it was terrible. You had to work SO hard to get any formula out of it. So I tried my drop ins then and she loved them.
I love them too b.c they are easy and BPA free. So my vote is for the drop ins. DD loves them, we tried about 8 kinds of bottles and nipples and they were the only ones she could easily get formula from.

I used drop ins with my son a long time ago and think I will be using them again...they were very easy. I am a germ freak and I liked them mostly because there's no sterilizing bottles, only the nipple.
Like others said it's very easy to check how much they drank by unscrewing the top and letting air into the bag.

Amen to this. We went thru Dr. B, Avent, Medela, even Gerber hated them and then found one she loves....Playtex drop in!

Wow... it looks like Drop i s are the winner. I guess I can also take off the bottle sterilizer and drying rack off the registry as well :)
Any thoughts on which nipples are best to start with w/ the playtex? I had read some posts elsewhere where people were complaining that the flow from some of the nipples were too slow (I guess the level 1 nipples) and just to skip to the next level.

I love the drop ins and I really do think they reduce the gas a baby may have bc you can push the air out before you give the bottle.
As far as knowing how much the baby has consumed, I usually unscrew the top and stick a spoon in to "re-set" the drop in and read the ounces. After doing that for a while, you get a round a bout idea just by looking.

Slow flow is NOT slow at all compared to most other nipples. In fact, IMO, the Playtex slow flow is pretty fast as DD often has formula coming out the sides of her mouth (an indicator the flow may be too fast). But I still use the slow b/c a) they are the slowest anyway of hte Playtex, and b) DD likes to easily get the formula out of them.
Only other thing to think about is if you want to use silicone or latex playtex nipples. DD only likes the latex, the fornula flows pretty fast from these. The silicone is just not her thing, she doesn't seem to care for the slipperyness of them. But I think this is a personal preference among babies.

I was fed with the drop ins 34 years ago and my family swears by them. I registered for the complete drop in system.

I registered for the Drop-Ins. I like that I don't have to sterilize entire bottles, just the nipples.

I actually registered for both... I was told sometimes the baby can be picky and prefer one over the other-- so, those two were recommended and I guess I will have both on hand.

Even though we use drop-ins, we still got use of our drying rack ( only because in the beginning, at least with me, I found that I ended up handwashing the bottles because we would go through them so quick and that my D/W wasnt full enough to waste a whole cycle on bottles and it was just easier to handwash occasionally - just a thought to keep in mind )
As for the nipples, my DS started on slow and when i started to see him get frusturated with the, we went to the next level..I think starting him off on level 2 would have been too fast for him when he was a newborn, but it all depends on the baby

Love them!!!!!!! I used both Born free & drop in and OMG Love the drop ins.. so easy to clean and they are BPa free!!!!! Go for it.

We have the Summer one with the shower attachment ( only the older model) and really liked it...Summer also has a really good customer service policy I found out ( the motor had gone on the shower part and they sent me a whole new one in a matter of days !)

I used them with DS -- they were the only bottle he would take. I don't know if you're planning on pumping or not, but Platyex sells a kit that hooks up to the Medela so you can pump straight into the liners -- makes things so much easier.
That being said, it was a little more difficult to see exactly how much he was drinking, because the markings on the bottle didn't line up with the markings on the liners (if you're using the One-Step kit that allows you to pump into the liners there is an extra collar that attaches to the bottle and it throws the markings off). It wasn't that big of a deal, though.
