Planned Ignoring?
Does anyone do this with their children? I was in a very busy price club in commack yesterday on my lunch break and there was a child about 3 yrs old SCREAMING on the line while his mother bought him and her pizza. They sat down and I sat down about 7 tables away. The child decided to stand at the vending machine behing my head SCREAMING "I WANT GOLDFISH!" The mother continued ignoring him and he was so far from where she was eating. I couldnt believe it. After about 10 minutes the grandma was done purchasing from the register line and went over and bought this child goldfish.

i can understand Ignoring it (to deter the behavior) at home... but i dont think Everyone in a crowded store should have to deal with that kids screaming.

I don't consider this planned ignoring per say...
I say it was an attempt at it then completely ruined it
My experience is that it can work...and well. But it has to be done right and consistently...
Me...i would have dragged the kid out of the place and went hom for a spankin

i agree.
whats the point of Subjecting everyone to the kid screaming, if you're just going to give in and give him what he wants anyway

Re: Planned Ignoring?
I actually was getting ****** because it was my lunch break(dont work at the price club). There was also a bunch of construction guys next to me that this child was rubbing up against when he was wandering. I think the mother might have thought she was using planned ignoring but then the grandma came in and gave it to the boy. I would have also took the situation home.

true...which actually does the complete opposite of what you want to happen
It is negative reinforcement...which IMO creates little monsters

Re: Planned Ignoring?
Even more of a reason to yell No but really, if she wanted to ignore his behavior...put him in the cart and let him scream BY HER. Its also a better way to not have him kidnapped!

all i know is my mom had "the look" and when she gave it, we were silent - even if we did take itup again once we were in the car or at home!

It definitely does. I agree 100%. I try to keep my monsters at bay when out in public. If they scream, they definitely do not get what they've just asked for.
