Pity
Do you know of anyone that you truly pity?
I mean people you know personally?

I'm not sure if it's true pity or I just feel bad for the life they lead.

Re: Pity
yes and I don't mean it in a mean way. I just look at some people are really feel bad (pity) for them and their lives ... whether it's because of a sickness or a situation, I get a pit in my stomach and feel awful for how their life is treating them. I hate that feeling.

Re: Pity
Yes. And with one person in particular it's not because of bad things that have happened or financial situations, it's because he just doesn't know what's really important in life and he will realize it too late, if at all.

It's a tough call especially when they feel like they may not need the help.

Re: Pity
This is a hard question to answer.
I can say I feel bad for people due to their situations...but pity? I think that is a harsh feeling to have.
I guess this falls into the same category as hate for me...2 VERY strong things to feel and judge someone else with.
Again, hard to answer...

...
why is it a harsh feeling to have? IMO i don't think that at all
ets...pity has nothing to do with anything like hate...it is much more sympathetic

With this definition...I would have to change my answer to Yes, I can and do feel "pity" for people.
I always thought of having pity for someone is to be more judging of them.
As in a sense of me feeling disgust for them. Again, hard for me to explain...I always associated pity as being a stuck up way of saying this person is a peice of poop...and I pity them.
So that is why I thought it hard to answer...
Makes more sense now...I don't, but this does!

Re: Pity
any kind of an emotion towards another is some sort of judgement. I don't think that is a bad thing.
But there is this co-worker of mine. She is in her late 40's. She doesn't not do anything to make herself look nice (no new clothes, her hair is a mess, no make-up). And she is very sad. She feels she will never get married or just be loved by another. Other co-workers and I have taken her shopping a few times and pretty much forced her to go get her hair done.
But she always goes back to her bleh sad self.
I pity her

Re: Pity
I guess I just never saw that word as being nice.
Doesn't mean it's wrong...obviously with that definition it's not. Just the way I have always felt when it was used.
As per the girl in your office...that's sad. (and I would feel pity for her as well) I find people like that are used to feeling that way and sometimes find comfort in it.
I have a friend like this also...she is always complaining about how she'll never find anyone (not complaining in a bad way) just I guess feeling bad about herself...BUT I do notice that she finds comfort in feeling sad. She doesn't do anything to help herself.

Re: Pity
SHe is sad...She just walked by my office which is why i thought of the thread.
SHe is a virgin who never really has had any bf's. We have tried to get her to go out with people but she is soooo old fashioned that she thinks men should do ALL the moves to go on a date. Meaning that she would NEVER call a guy, NEVER ask one to go out....nothing!

Dh's coworker is the same. She's older though. Nice lady but very old fashioned in her ways and lives for her 2 cats.

Wow that is bad. I think the older you get the harder it is to build that confidence you need to deal with dating.
