Picture Holiday Cards
99.9 percent of the cards we receive are photo cards. I love them! and I think the people I send our photo card to don't mind seeing my almost 18 year old son on there (along with my daughter). We get many cards from work colleagues that have grown children on them. I think it's great!

I don't do picture cards, but I roll my eyes when kids are in High School and still on a Christmas Card. Actually after age 5 I don't want to see it anymore, but i'm sure I'm in the minority!
After age 5?!?!?!?!
My kids are 8 and 3, not stopping anytime soon. Just a question, out of sheer curiosity, WHY would you ever roll your eyes at a family Xmas card? Who cares how old a child is or what pics someone uses? Kind of a "Grinchy" attitude, don't you think? I'm thankful for any Xmas card I receive whether it's handwritten, pre-printed or covered in pics.
Since you asked, I will answer...maybe 5 is me exaggerating, but really after grade school age I think it is totally unnecessary. I think the family pictures are even worse. I have family members who still take pictures with their 24 year old son, and yes, I roll my eyes. Give it up already. Most people I know who send photo cards don't even bother signing it! I would much rather get a "boring" card that has a personal message than a picture of kids. Not going to justify how I feel...BELIEVE me, I am not the only person who rolls their eyes at photo cards of big kids and parents....I'm sure many of your( not you in particular, general you) family and friends feel the same way! The OP asked for our opinions, I gave mine, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I didn't grow up in the generation of photo cards, maybe that's why I don't like them, but honestly, unless it's a pic of a cute baby, I don't want it. Also not sure since we were asked for opinions, why I'm being singled out and why my personal opinion, that WE WERE ASKED TO GIVE, is not acceptable None of you are sending me Christmas cards, so it really shouldn't matter!
No need to be defensive, your response just seemed odd to me.
I've never heard of someone being annoyed by a picture Xmas card. FTR, I don't give a crap about them being personalized or someone signing them..............it doesn't change the sentiment behind receiving a card in the first place. I ONLY get cards from close friends and family and since these are people I care about I enjoy seeing their kids and families. I would hope they feel the same!!
I also didn't grow up in the generation of photo cards, I am 41, but I still think they are nice and way better than some boring store bought card.
Sorry if you were offended but truthfully, I can't believe that anyone would get their panties in a bunch over a Xmas card. Just seems a little ridiculous in the grand scheme of life. I would hope the people I know IRL don't feel the same way, I just assumed since they care about me and my family they would enjoy seeing a pic of my children at the holidays. Good to know some people might be rolling their eyes, how sad.
My panties are not in a bunch, but yours sure seem to be because a random person on the internet said they don't care for photo cards!!!! I never said I was offended by them either, I said I don't like photo cards once kids are growing. I'd much rather get a personalized card where someone actually writes a line or two, instead of putting a blank card in an enevlope with no thught. You are the one who can't believe that not everyone thinks the way you do, but then again, you are like that on whatever topic is. But you are right about one thing, in grand scheme of life it doesn't matter...I'll roll my eyes and hang it up with the rest of my cards and go on my merry way.

Picture Holiday Cards
As long as DD lets me. If she's in high school and doesn't want her face on a card anymore, I'll respect that.
DH has friends who, before they had a kid, used to get professional pictures of themselves taken for their cards. Pics kissing, holding hands, frolicking in the sand or some other bs. Call me a grinch but THAT I rolled my eyes at. No one wants a pic of you making out with your bf/gf on their fridge. Luckily now they send cards with their son and he's adorable.

Re: Picture Holiday Cards
even a thread about holiday photo cards devolves into drama!
In response, it might be strange to put your 35 year old's face on a card but if I had to choose I would prefer picture cards over boring boxed cards. I don't know about other people, but half the time I don't even get anything beyond a generic signature in boxed cards so it's not like the majority of people are writing these heartfelt messages in them. Some people order a pre-printed generic message in their traditional boxed card so they don't even pick up a pen. Some people don't even write dear so and so in them, just their name at the bottom lol. So how would that be any different than just stuffing a picture card in an envelope? Of course it's nice to be thought of and for someone to share their family pics with you during the holidays, but -- send me a card, don't send me a card.. personally I don't care.

We still do it... my kids are 9 and 6... we get one form My oldest cousins who Are in their late 20''s... my aunt does it and it's pics from throughout the year not a target photo shoot type of thing. I'll do it until my kids become completely uncooperative.

Re: Picture Holiday Cards
Now that I have kids, probably forever! And when they're older (high school or college) maybe we'll do a picture card with all of us. I also enjoy when people include a letter saying what everyone is up to. I was thinking it would be nice to do one with the grandparents too... Maybe I will suggest it for next year.

I love photos cards. Kids, whole family, pets, your house ... whatever.
My MIL has us take a family pic every year and she uses it for her Christmas card. I don't love the idea because I personally don't want to be hanging on someone's card tree for the month of December, but it makes her happy lol.
No kids here. We do a card with our dogs. One year we added our bearded dragons. I'm sure people roll their eyes at our dog card but I don't care.

I don't do cards in general, but my inlaws do. And they put pics of my husband and me on it, and the pics are never good! They made us take a pic with them on Saturday when we were about to get in the car to drive 6 hours home - I was wearing sweats and no makeup, and had lots of baby bloat going on. This years card is gonna be gorgeous.

Re: Picture Holiday Cards
A scary mommy article today had people fighting over a pic of Santa photoshopped under the tree etc
People were saying why put your kids through it. Tell them the truth
I swear this world is crazy
Only today do people worry about whose on the card. If the card is signed. What style etc
Instead of the fact someone is saying happy holidays

Re: Picture Holiday Cards
I can't believe anyone thinks there's an age limit on children in photo cards! My kids are 7, 4 and newborn and they will all be the stars of my holiday cards for years to come!! Roll your eyes all you want!
I will say I do kind of roll my eyes a bit at some people who send overly elaborate detailed Christmas letters with pictures of every trip, every event in their lives and their (grand)children's lives over the past year. These are typically older middle aged relatives who must have a tonnnnn of time on their hands and think I want to see pictures of them on their trip to Cape May, trip to Florida to visit their elderly mother, their granddaughter receiving the perfect attendance award, etc. I get some that are thick booklets! Like I have time to even read all that?

I imagine once my kids are teens I'll use a pic or two from a vacation or event that year instead of having Xmas pics taken.

I don't think I'll ever want to stop. But I'm sure at some point the kids will! I love picture cards that we get - even if it's cats, dogs, a house or too old kids.
I try to get picture cards where there is a little blank space that I can write it out to someone and a little message. This year the space is very limited but I'll still try to write something.

Honestly - I think by the time they are out of the house/in college, it's time to hang it up. My cousin still sends out picture cards. Her sons are both married, one has a baby on the way. I absolutely do an eye roll when I receive it.
