people are unreal
we live on a corner. The prev owner only put up a 4 foot picket fence on the sde/back of the house. off our side door is our yard and patio. We have not really been able to enjoy the space because we we have no privacy (we live across the street from a church so everyone going to mass stops to talk to us if we are gardening or something or walk past and stares into our yard). We also deal with people walking across our lawn.
So we finally decided to get a fence. The men come today and put up one section of 6 foot pvc fence. Right after the one section went up this old woman walks across our lawn up to DH who is standing outside and this is what goes down:
Old Lady: Is this fence staying? (no we are putting it up just for today)
DH: yes, and infact it is going down this way and into the back
Old Lady: Well then I cant see into your yard
DH: that is the point we have a 2 week old baby and my wife would like to be able to be outside with him without everyone looking in
Old Lady: well all that fence is going to restrict the air flow
DH: sorry to hear that
Old Lady: does the town allow this?
DH: yes it is
This was seriously the conversation.. ristrict airflow? is she kidding. BTW i have no idea who this lady is Im 99% sure she does not live on our block I think she is just a perishoner of the church.
people have nerve... Im sorry but we are entited to our privacy.

its none of her business, but most towns do have restrictions about fence height on corner lots.
I know we can't put up more than a 4ft fence.

yeah the 6ft is allowed, it was the fact that she was mad she couldnt see into our yard anymore.

People are ridiculous.
We are a corner lot as well and do not have a fence. Luckily, we have HUGE bushes which make it very difficult for people to see into our yard. The people across from us have no barrier, but I do not think they hang out in their backyard very often.

We are actually getting these very soon because our neighbor has a deck that overlooks our fence and whenever we are in the backyard he thinks it's ok to have a 45 min convo instead of a hi & bye. When I am in my backyard I don't want to speak with my neighbors, that's why it's a backyard, and I certainly don't want them knowing what I am doing back there every time i'm back there.

I lived on a corner, near a church growing up. This happened to my parents when they first moved in. they are only allowed to have the 6 ft fence behind the house line, but they put a big (well now it's big) crab apple tree in the front corner with bushes and a flower bed around it. They said it stopped people.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. All around us everything has these little 4ft fences and everyone can see everything. I don't understand why the hell you want to see us BBQ'ing and drinking beers or me gardening.

Wow-that is crazy that she would think this would be any of her business. Or, that you should concern yourself with her ability to see into your yard
On a side note, down here in NC, my whole neighborhood has split rail fencing-everyone can see everything. Took some getting used to, but I still plan to plant some privacy bushes-it's just too open.
