Parking Lot Etiquette with Babies
I was at the mall and the parking spots were really tight. It took me almost 5 min to park into a spot because the right car parked right at the dividing line. After I finally got in, the woman on my left comes to car and gives me an evil eye because now she has no space to get her baby into her car. I squeeze out and walk toward the mall. She starts cursing (not necessarily at me). I was about to say something back but then decided to just go.
Was I wrong? Should I have moved my car?
If she was nicer and asked nicely, I probably would have but she started with an evil eye.

No, I don't think you did anything wrong, assuming that you were within the lines on your spot. You have just as much of a right to park there as she does.
ETA - also, her attitude also doesn't make her seem so sympathetic, either.

Re: Parking Lot Etiquette with Babies
It certainly would have been nice to move your car. When you have a baby in an infant seat, it's impossible to get it in the car if other cars park too close. When I go out with my baby, I park where there are not a lot of cars, usually very far from the store, because I'm always worried this is going to happen.

I was within the lines of my spot. I was closer to the left since the car on my right was exactly on that line. I barely got out of my car.

I really hate when people park over the line - and yes IMO parking ON the line is the same thing.
I would would not have even tried to get into the spot because either way my car risks getting dinged from the assshole on my right or the person on my left.
I would have moved the car to let her get the baby in and then pulled back in. It is a biitch and a half to get a baby in the car without worrying about ruining your car door. Forget if the baby is in a car seat. I would have been cursing too.

The dirty look she gave would have turned me off. But the mom in me would have asked her, would you like me to back out so you can get in?
But I don't think you did anything wrong.

Thinking back, even if I did move the car over the 2-3 inches, I still don't think she would have had enough space to get the baby in the car.
We lived in Manhattan for most of the time when kids would have been in infant car seats. I clearly remember walking everywhere because it was such a pain to fold the stroller and even get in a cab.

You didn't do anything wrong. It would have been nice for you to move the car to allow her to get baby out but you certainly arent obliged to. I have had kind strangers move their car for me to get my kids out without asking. I was always taken aback by the kindness of the gesture.
I have taken baby seats out through my trunk because of this so I understand her cursing away. It's not personal towards you just such a PIA of these tight spots.

Re: Parking Lot Etiquette with Babies
I have had to put dd in through the driver side on occasion if the car was parked too close on the passenger side (where her seat is). It's an annoying inconvenience of suburban living. If you couldn't move your car anymore over, I personally would have realized that. Now, if there was an empty spot next to you, different story.

That reminds me of another incident that happened this morning. Preschool parking lot is full with one spot left. I can't pull in because a mom is putting her baby in the car and her door is blocking me. She took like 5+ minutes and there was a line of cars behind me. Because she was taking so long, none of the cars behind me could move and other cars also couldn't pull out since the cars waiting were blocking them.
I no longer work so it didn't bother me so much but I could clearly see the dad behind me was fuming. DS was a few min late for school. Not a huge deal but I wished she would have hurried a little seeing the line of cars.

I would have moved and let her open the door wide to get the baby in - if for no other reason than the fact that she may have destroyed my car trying to do it herself. Was she wrong to park like an idiot? Yes - but I wouldn't spite myself on principle if it meant a nice ding in my door - KWIM?

Pre-kids me wouldn't have even given her a second thought. Your baby, your problem. Yes, I was that person.
Post-kids me would've pulled back out so she could get in.
Did you do anything wrong? No. Would it have been a nice gesture to move the car so she could get in? Yes.

That would've annoyed the crap out of me. No-one needs 5 minutes to get a kid into the car and, if she did, she should have let you get into the spot and then went back to what she was doing. If it were me, I would have asked her to close her door and let you park, since she is causing a traffic jam.

It was the car on the right side that parked on the line which caused the OP to then park on the line on the driver's side. The lady with the baby was then left with no room to open the door. At least that's the way I understood it.

I wasn't on the line but closer to the left than to the right. I literally went in and out like 10 times to get into the spot. The spot was tight to begin with. I blame the small spots. My car isn't even that big. This is one of the main reasons I did not get a bigger car. I thought it would be such a pain to park.

I totally agree. Cars are getting bigger and spots are getting so narrow!!

Re: Parking Lot Etiquette with Babies
Personally, I wouldn't have parked in the spot and would have cursed the person who parked like an a-hole as I drove by it.
If I did park there, I would have moved my car out for her to get in. Same goes for if it was an elderly person or bigger person. But that's just me. Her reaction I wouldn't say was right or wrong, just honest. She probably had it with the mall at that point and now she had to maneuver into her car with the baby.
This is why I shop online. And if I MUST go into a mall, it's when they first open on a weekday.

If it was difficult to get into the spot in the first place then no I would not have moved. I have children, granted they are school age, but I have never expected people to accommodate me because of my decision to have kids. She could always go around the other side. Parking lots aren't perfect places and everyone just has to deal with that.

I probably would not have parked in the spot in the first place if it was so tight to get into. Unless there was absolutely NO other option in the lot. I also would not have moved to let her load the baby. The thought would never have even crossed my mind as something I should do. I have a 17 month old DS so infant car seat days are not that far behind me. She can b!tch face you all she wants, you did nothing wrong and it's not your problem.

You saw her with a baby and you knew she couldn't get the child in? I'm sorry but I think you did the wrong thing. I understand that she gave you a nasty look but you should have done the right thing and moved.

Re: Parking Lot Etiquette with Babies
I think your situation you weren't wrong though I don't think I would have ever parked there. though I def. would have been the person cursing because the cars are too close together.
one time I was parked and I came out to another mom (I was at an open play) who parked crooked and over the line. she had two kids and I have no idea how she got them out of the car there was no possible way from the one side where I had to get my DD in. I was fuming. I left a note on her car that said learn how to park assshole ...was it mature no but it was better than me damaging her car which I was tempted to do! I just happen to like my car so I didn't

If it took you 5 minutes to squeeze into the spot then personally I would not have parked there but that's me. If I saw a mom and she couldn't get her kid in the car because of my car I would have pulled out and then parked in her spot. Maybe if I don't have kids I wouldn't have thought of it but now that I'm a mom I certainly would have. I've also had to put dd in through the opposite door though many times.

Like some PP's said, if it took me 5 minutes to park in a spot, I would've said screw it and parked somewhere else. And, I would've absolutely moved the car if I saw a woman and a baby and knew that they couldn't get in.

Yeah I totally would have moved. I hate seeing people struggle. And I believe now in just de-escalating things. Because now look. You didn't move. She was put out and I'm sure it was cold today and then the baby suffers somewhat. And now you're on here asking about it and it's clearly on your mind, ya know?
Better to just make things easier for others and then go on about your day, feeling good that you did a small thing for someone. Just my take on it. :)

You didn't do anything wrong. I have triplets, one of whom is disabled, and I just dealt with getting everyone in and out of the car. I never expected anyone to move for me. Hey when I take the kids to school in the morning I consider it a good day if no one without a placard is in the last handicapped spot or if a parent doesn't pull into the wheelchair unloading zone and use it as a spot!
Getting a baby into a car is not so difficult IMO that it requires someone who just spent five minutes pulling into a car to back out
That said, I hate narrow parking spaces for lots of reasons.
