matte IMO. I don't like eggshell because when you touch up spots you can tell, but if you touch up matte, you can't.

I like Matte because it's still washable if need be, but has a flat look to it. Flat finishes help to cover up flaws in the wall better and just look neater IMO.
ETA- matte is sometimes also called "scrubbable or washable flat"

Re: painting help -- eggshell or matte finish?
If this is for a nursery (actually for any room) i would do eggshell. We painted our living room matte and although it looked great it the beginning it gets SO dirty and it is tough to clean. Since your LO will be touching the walls like crazy, I would go with eggshell

Re: painting help -- eggshell or matte finish?
I got into this discussion recently.
Matte is easier to touch up.
Eggshell is easier to clean.
Because I've never touched up a room (but have cleaned marks), I went with eggshell (I like the way it looks better too... it's brighter).

Re: painting help -- eggshell or matte finish?
I hate my Matte finish and will never use it again. It's incredibly hard to clean and scratches easily. I haven't tried to do a touch up yet.
I've used eggshell throughout the rest of our home and I find it easy to keep clean, touch up and doesn't scratch like the matte.

Re: painting help -- eggshell or matte finish?
The people who lived in our house before us used matte- and I didn't like how it looked at all. Any painting we did was with eggshell.

EGGSHELL
We did matte all over our house 7 years ago b/c our painters suggested it.
I hated it from day one. You cannot wash it and it chips easily and God forbid you rub up against it. No way, never again.
