Did she know it was something that you wanted to share with them when they were older?
If not, you can't really get mad at her. It's fine to be upset about it, but I don't think anyone would think that it's something someone would be saving to share unless they were specifically told so. If MIL knew this was something important to you, then of course that's pretty messed up.
I've never specifically told her this. Just thought it was something that everyone would want to share with their children.. maybe it's not as common sense as I thought and I'm overreacting.
I understand why it's important to you however, if she didn't know that was something you were saving then you can't really fault her.
I totally agree.

This would not bother me at all. Plus your kids are so young too, maybe they won't remember and you can show them again in a few years when they can really get it.

Overreacting or not?
I don't think it would bother me since they're still so young and probably won't remember. Did your DH know you wanted to be the first one to show them? He could have stopped his mom. Can't be angry at your MIL for not knowing though.

This is what I was thinking..I'd be more upset with DH than MIL.

To be honest, I never even thought of showing my wedding video to my DD. I don't think much about it ever. If my mom showed it to her, I'd be like- oh that's cool I didn't even think of it!
Same here. I've actually only watched my video once right after I got married. I wouldn't really have thought to watch it with my kids

My DD watched my video without me at about the same age. It was her favorite thing to watch for a time. I don't think she'd be much interested in watching it now tbh - she's almost 9.

It would bother me, yes. But I think you have to file it under one of those 'people can't read your mind' type of things ....... I don't think that's an obvious "Mom gets to do this first" type of thing KWIM? Sorry it was ruined for you though

Overreacting or not?
You feel the way you feel, but honestly, i didn't even know this was a thing??????Did your MIL know that you were waiting to show your kids your wedding video? I don't have kids, but I can't picture being upset by this. To my knowledge nobody in my huge network of friends, family , colleagues , acquaintances has ever mentioned that they were waiting for the day to show their kids their wedding video! I never saw my parents video, if they even had one! I never usually defend In Law behavior, but in this case you have got to cut the woman a break.

I'm upset for you and I didn't even have a video. I definitely think this was an ask first situation and I would be annoyed with my MIL or mother if they did that - hypothetically speaking.

Re: Overreacting or not?
I can understand why you would be upset; BUT in fairness to your MIL; how would she really know how upset you would be by it. Maybe she was proud to show them her son and daughter in law getting married. Maybe she wanted to entertain them by showing them a video she is so proud of? Or maybe she thought you watched it with them already........who knows?
But I have to say; with your kids being 2 and 3; did they really pay that much attention to it?
Watch it again with them and your daughter; so you can all enjoy it as a family and you can explain all the things you wanted to them.

Re: Overreacting or not?
Honestly it would not bother me but I respect that you are annoyed. To be perfectly honest I doubt that your kids will remember this. We took our DD to Disney when she was 3 1/2 and she remembers NOTHING!! so I think you can bring this out when they are older and they will be seeing it for the first time in their minds.
I would ask DH to ask you MIL to not show it to them if she tries to again.

Re: Overreacting or not?
I'd freak out and be so upset, and not be able to say anything bc I obviously never told anyone not to show it.
I'm so sorry. I know how you feel.

If they didn't know, then no. I would not be upset.
You are allowed to be upset. That is ok. But you cant blame them if you never told your in laws.

Unless I had specifically expressed to her that I was saving this as something to do with them when I was older, no I wouldnt be pissed.

My inlaws and my parents both have copies of our wedding video. It was included in the video package.
