If you don't get the hutch, do you have an option of putting a mirror above the dresser? Would a hutch on the dresser overpower the room? If it wouldn't it may be a good thing to have for when he starts getting a little older. After all, he'll need a place of his own to display all the KISS action figures, etc.
ETA: If you really don't want the hutch, go with your instincts and don't get it now and find out if it's an option to get it later on if you change your mind.

I like it alot! It looks great as is, a very open looking room. With the hutch, it'll make the room look smaller.

I probably wouldn't get the hutch, especially if the room is small. If it's huge and it won't make the room look smaller, I say go for it.!

Downside to the hutch is child hitting head when they are able to sit up. Makes diaper changing very challenging.

Where did you order it from?
It can fit in the room without question...it's a fairly big room.
I got it at Behrs. It's a little more than I thought we would pay for furniture...but the quality is great and Grandma and Grandpa want their first grandson to have it!
