Re: Oprah...

I saw some of it this morning before I left for work (it comes on at 9am here). It seems like it was going to turn into us vs. them type of discussion. I Tivo'd it so I'll watch the rest when I get home.

Re: Oprah...

I would love to be a SAHM BUT my mortgage says I can't. So in order for my kids (when they come along) to have a nice house I'll have to work!

I saw like what was coming up and it was some lady saying you are horrible for not spending time with your kids. I'd love for her to pay my bills Chat Icon

Being a Mom is my first and most important job. Would I love to be a SAHM - to be quite honest, I don't think so. I think I would feel I'd lose my identity. I will probably stay at home at some point and maybe just work a flexible schedule or part-time. That is the best decision for me. I don't have any right to judge what's best for anyone and I don't think anyone has the right to judge me.

Re: Oprah...

personally- I do better with more on my plate

as much as I would love to be a SAHM- I agree with Kate that I feel like I would be losing part of myself- I like to have my own money, and contribute to the family

but I also take into account being married to a saleman and giving up my salary would not be a smart idea- it's nice to know that we def have a certain amount coming in each month for sure

my Mom worked, had 3 kids and coached things for us, was the brownie leader- and she managed to work out 5 days a week- and cook dinner evey night

I wish she was alive to ask her how the hell she did it- b/c looking back it was pretty amazing- I don't do half of that and I can't figure out how I could!

Re: Oprah...

Being a SAHM of 4 months and counting, i can honestly say it is the HARDEST but most rewarding job i'll ever have.

With that being said...I don't care what people choose to do. We are adults, and as adults I'd like to think everyone does what they feel is right for them. I in no way feel as if my identity is lost...I work 20 hours/week from home to be able to contribute financially and be with my son. I feel very fulfilled, and when my children are older I will go back full time. For now its temporary, but the best temp job i could ask for!

Chat Icon Unfortunate but true. And it is the same points that are argued everytime. Here's a though, why don't people just live their own lives to the best of their ability/morality & NOT worry about everyone else???

Re: Oprah...

OMG is Oprah running out of things to talk about?? Are there REALLY people out there who think working a FT job is harding than being a SAHM or are there SAHMs who thinki they work harder than FT workers???

Each scenario is different. NO JOB is easy!! If it was, there wouldnt be any rewards to it!!

I applaud all SAHMs. I dont have kids yet, but i see what my friends go thru and i say- good for you girlfriend. I dont think we will be able to afford for me to be a SAHM but i would if we could.

Re: Oprah...

I am annoyed that Oprah even had a show on this at all. People do what's right for their life, and her show is just perpetuating the debate that shouldn't even be a freaking debate. And YET AGAIN, Oprah feels the need to comment as if she can really relate to the subject. So....

Dear Oprah,
You have no right speaking on the subject of what it's like to be a SAHM or a working mom because you are neither.

right there with ya! I stopped watching Oprah for this very reason. Not sure when it came to be that she's an authority on every subject. I've seen her speak on topics when she clearly has no understanding of the issue. Not only that, i find her extremely opinionated and judgemental of many of her guests. I do have to say though, that I admire her for the charity work she does.
