I have no fear.

This is entirely based on Biblical text. Which to me is a piece of fiction.

Relgious people have been predicting the end of days for centuries.

What she said.

Exactly.

I think it is supposed to start at 6pm on the international date line and roll forward so that it happens at 6pm local time in every time zone.

Not concerned. I'll be honest that the thought has crossed my mind and I thought what if.

Nope. I dont read that part - doesn't exist to me.

It doesn't exist to anyone, its not in the bible! LOL

Its like reading every 4th word in the dictionary and deciding that Webster predicted the end LOL

I am religious and I don't believe it for a second.

Let's assume you're willing to be open minded about it, and not immediately write it off on face, if you think about it it becomes even more incredible.

What first struck me about it is that the bible has been in existence for thousands of years and YOU finally cracked the code? How arrogant to think that not only have you cracked the code BUT the code conveniently tells you that the end of days is going to come during your lifetime..within the next year, even. Really? you caught something thousands of years of exegesis missed? And it's something that happens to make your time more significant?

And if you look at the "code" they cracked, it's ridiculously simplistic. It's not really the accepted reading of the bible. It's like they basically looked for a way to find proof of the world ending this year and twisted the bible to almost sorta kinda fit it. They take "A day is as a thousand year" to mean that the world would end in 7,000 years. Umm, no one actually thinks that's what that passage means.

Admittedly any time I hear of anyone saying the world is going to end on this date or that date, my immediate response is "nutcase!" but even if you did try to evaluate it somewhat objectively, you'd find that it's really bull.

I honestly don't understand how someone WOULD believe it. I feel sorry for the people who are so desperate. I feel like if anything they LACK faith in god if they have to follow some radio guy.

I don't believe it will happen, but I am also a never say never persona nd NOBODY can say yes or no for certain. SInce it's the 22nd in Australia I feel pretty safe and the earthquakes were supposed to have already started so I guess he looks to be wrong. I think it's scary, to me, because I am pg and have a small child. I am always worried about the what if's. Not so much for the world ending per say, but the hysteria some people are creating.

Well, there could be fear due to the judgment/being cast away from family and friends/etc.

As a Catholic, do I think that the Second Coming will be a glorious time? Sure. However, I also think that we are supposed to be living our lives in this world every day in the best possible way and not just focusing on how we will be in the next life.

However, again, as I've been saying, anyone who is following the words of Christianity knows that the Bible says we cannot know the day and time. So honestly, I don't know what to even call these people who think that they can predict it. To say that they know really goes against a major component of Christianity.

Isn't it about 6 pm now in Europe. I know Italy is about 6 hours ahead of us so if it's 12:10 here it is 6:10 there...Haven't heard anything...Chat Icon

Re: ok, so..be honest! (rapture related)

I'm not worried about it happening today.

I am a Christian. I do believe The Word. I don't know how literally The Bible should be taken, but I have been taught my whole life to prepare for the arrival of God on earth. But - I also don't think Camping or anyone else knows the exact date. My father taught me that the unfolding of God's return would be swift and quiet.. no warning. A Christian - it is said - should be ever alert and always penitent as preparation.

Now - despite the fact that I think this specific date is a bunch of Hooey - I don't think it's appropriate to mock other people for their deeply held beliefs. Religion and spirituality is a very personal thing. And I think all the jokes and mocking could be very hurtful to a person who has prepared and believed strongly that today is the Rapture.

But even if today WAS the date of the gathering of Christ's followers and people just disappeared without warning.. I still can't bother worrying about it. I believe in Perfect Will. Not my own, but God's. Can't spend time fretting about that since it's not gonna do ya any good in the long run!!

I should also mention that I'm probably most aligned with Catholic thought which means I'm pretty much an amillennialist... which may have a hand in my failure to 'believe'.
