OK, Need Help TTC Please

I try to come on here when I can and learn things before starting to TTC. So my questions are, where do I start? What is the first things I should do. I need lots of basics here please. I'm still trying to understand all the lingo. I'm 37 and would like two children, so I feel like I don't want to waste time just winging it. I would rather like to know when is the right time to BD. Any books that I should maybe read? Thank you for any help you can give me.Chat Icon

Re: OK, Need Help TTC Please

The first thing I did when I knew this was the time I was ready.... by the recommendation of a friend, I bought the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility".

To be honest it was the best thing I did. It's a great way to even learn the basics & then some.

Of course mixed with the help & info from other TTCers on here.

I would start by reading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It was super helpful for me, it even has pictures for help! Chat Icon It teaches you how to chart your temperature and cervical mucus. These two things are the biggest indicators of when you will and do ovulate. Buy a basal body thermometer and chart your temperature when you wake up. Do not use the bathroom, do not get up at all, just immediately take your temperature. By doing this at the same time everyday, you will see a rise in temperature after you ovulate. Pre-ovulation you will have a series of low temperatures, with peaks and valleys, and post-ovulation your temperature will rise into another pattern of peaks and valleys, but always remaining high. The book I recommended shows you samples of charts so that you have general idea of what your chart might look like. Through charting, you can also count the number of days in your luteal phase which is the period of time between ovulation and AF. You want to have at least a 10 day luteal phase to make sure that when you do get pregnant it has a great chance of sticking. By the way, charting your temperature does not tell you WHEN you will ovulate, it only tells you that you HAVE ALREADY ovulated. Noticing your cervical mucus is a pretty good indicator of ovulation coming. A day to a few days before ovulation, you will see egg white quality mucus "down below". This is a sign that ovulation is coming. You might also want to buy OPKs to help you predict when you will ovulate. Between charting your temps, CM and using OPKs you will have a lot going for you! I wish you the best of luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

YES this was a great book! Also maybe go and see your GYN and see what they have to say. I read things on here but I do what my doctor says first and foremost

ITA. One of the best things I did was let my Dr know we were TTC. It was a very helpful resource to be able to call the office if I had a question.

I really liked the book too. Never knew so much about my own body as I do now.

Re: OK, Need Help TTC Please

My advice (and it took me a while to conceive along with a million appts. with an RE and lots of tests) is to first and foremost............don't over-think it and just start trying. I too recommend reading up on your cycles and learning about what is happening with your body but it's also easy to make yourself crazy and stressed. I hated temping, I didn't always notice my CM even when I ovulated, I freaked when I didn't ovulate on the exact right day that the books said I was suppose too........I ended up making myself crazy!!

If you have regular cycles then I would advise using the OPK kits to make sure you know when you ovulate and when you do TTC the BEST thing I can tell you to do is to start BD'ing the days leading into your ovulation and for at least 1-2 days after you ovulate. You want to make sure you have those little swimmers up there at all different points ready to meet that egg.

Above all (and this is the hardest part) just try to relax and enjoy the process. It can be frustrating, trust me I know, but when you least expect it things will happen!! After all my stress and doctor appts. and tests I was convinced it wouldn't happen for me and then out of nowhere (right before I was about to start fertility meds) I ovulated and got pregnant. Read up, know your body, but really...........just have it and cross your fingers it all happens quickly!! Lots and lots of luck to you!!!!! Re: OK, Need Help TTC Please

I just wanted to thank everyone for their great advise and helpful words. Hopefully my stay here will be short. The first thing I need to do is make a doctors appointment. Thanks everyone! I'm sure I will have lots of questions soon. Chat Icon
