OHSS question

Since I bagan stims I've been to the RE every day for monitoring because my estrogen levels were going up very quickly and they were worried about OHSS.
Tonight will be the 7th night on stims -they've already lowered the dose to just 25 Folistim and nothing else since 3 days ago.
When the nurse called tonight she said my estrogen level was 3,200 and they were "concerned". Does anyone know how high is too high? I don't know the size of my folies but according to the doctor this morning he said they were "not ready yet"
I'm getting really worriedChat Icon

Some of us have gone thru different levels of OHSS. I believe Gerty has suffered the worst from it- she was hospitalized because of it.
I got OHSS after an IUI, not after IVF - so I'm not sure what the level is. Make sure you drink a lot of water or a 50/50 water/gatorade mix... and take it easy. Chat Icon

Re: OHSS question

Thanx I think I'm just scaring myself more by reading about it. I guess I'll just have to wait to see what they say tomorrow.

Re: OHSS question

I will say you should definitely be concerned. Have they told you how many follies they see? An estrodial level of 3200 is high...mine was a little over 4000 and I had severe OHSS.
Please get a lot of rest, if you have any discomfort and/or cramping TELL your Dr./Nurse or PA, if you have any bloating let them know, drink lots of fluids - especially a 50/50 Gatorade/Water mix...Stay off your feet as much as possible.

They may go ahead with your retrieval and cancel the transfer. The problem with OHSS is that it doesn't come out until after trigger and even then doesn't get really bad until retrieval or right after. Your empty follicles start to fill with fluid and they just don't stop...

Good luck - I truly hope you don't experience it and if you do it is just a mild case.Chat Icon

Thanks for responding Gerty. I just got back from Dr. and he told me that he's not cancelling the cycle just yet but he's going to try to have me "coast". This might lower my estrogen level. I have about 20 follies and about 6 are 16 or better right now. I will stop all stims and we'll see. He did mention that they might retieve and not transfer. I have a little bloating right now but I will take your advice.
O yeah, one more thing - he's also putting me on Viagara Chat Icon

Re: OHSS question

That's good news...as I said just be very aware of your body and let the Dr. know if anytihing changes.
What's the Viagra for?

If it makes you feel better...they were unable to count the amount of follies I had and ended up retrieving 50 eggs @ my first retrieval.

Re: OHSS question

I had OHSS on a Follistim/IUI cycle and like others said, it hit hard about 2 days after the trigger. My case was "mild" but very uncomfortable and scary. The coasting should help. Chat Icon for a successful ER and no OHSS!!!
