I told my SIL the name we choose for our  and flat out laughed in our faces. I thought DH was going to rip her face off. I was so hurt.
we had the same reaction, we wanted the name priscilla for her and DH's family all complained about it and said people will make fun of her and blah blah blah, so we changed it and didnt tell anyone yet. Whenever they ask if we picked a name, i say we have a few up in the air, nothing picked yet.

That's what I would do. That's why I haven't told some of co-workers, they are the type that will have some stupid comment to make no matter how normal the name is.
I keep saying that we haven't decided.

When we told our mothers the girl's name we had chosen if our son was a girl, my mother made a horrible face and my SIL told us the name was stupid. That is why DH and I have decided not to tell anyone what our little girl's name will be until she is born.

I think its a shame that people act that way when it comes to names. As far as this posting, I am sure it wasnt meant to offend anyone bc "hey thats what it says...LOL". I think this board is so positive so lets keep it in that frame

What was the point of this thread? I mean, what do you care what people name their kids? And why would you come to the pregnancy board to spiel about it? We're all in the process of naming our little ones, and I just think it was a rude thing to post. JMHO. Maybe it's just my hormones, but I see no point in this thread except to cause drama.

When i tell people i am naming our son John, I have actually heard....ohhhh thats really common, why?
WHY?? Because thats his dads name, I LOVE the name John, I think its a strong, beautiful name and because I can name my baby any damn name I want.
So there.

I only put the drama word in my post was because I couldn't understand why someone would be questioning names of children on a pregnancy board. Now that I understand what she was talking about it makes more sense, but still agree that it should have been on the NFR board rather than here. I could have understood if the poster was thinking of names for their child and someone was making fun of them or whatever and they were venting about it.
I understood she put in the title not to OFFEND anyone - but come on you have how many emotional preggos over here, someone was bound to get offended.

Okay, I am now still confused by everyones change of heart. Me personally, I didnt think it was offensive from the start but for those that did...shouldnt your points still be defended that parents can name their kids whatever they want? Honestly, in response to the actual question...yes I do think some of the names are strange but to each its own. I dont even think Moses was THAT BAD. I think the media played it up bc they were sooooooo waiting for the baby to be named orange

Phineas was a lead character's name in one of my favorite books and Moses Malone was a basketball legend ...

You all have to admit....
When a celebrity names their child something "outlandish" live phinnaeus or hazel, or Moses, Apple etc...people are going to talk!! Its just the way it is.
Maybe they are nice names, different, unique what have you....but when a celebrity does it we all wonder whether its because they LOVE the name or are doing it to be different and trendier than the next. Its natural!
I think that if a person is content in their name choice, then who cares? I was one of the ones who laughed at the name Moses. I guess just picturing Gwyneths little blonde haired baby boy as a name associated with a long grey bearded biblical reference is funny.
