Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

We aren't going to TTC until June which means I've got six months to get my butt back in gear and get into maximum shape for baby making.

Just looking to see who is in the same position as me!

I hear you about this, we're debating whether or not to start now or wait a few more months, but I do want to lose a few pounds before so I do know where you're coming from.

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

What are you ladies doing to accomplish whatever your goal is?

I would love to lose more weight:

I lost almost 60 lbs a year ago ... have put 15 of them back on. So I'd love to relose those 15 lbs and maybe even a few more before June which I think is totally doable.

But more importantly -- I really need to try to get friendly with exercising. I've been told that its important to go into pregnancy with as strong of a core as possible -- just in case you need a C-section. It's so hard to regain muscle tone even when you're in super fit condition.

And I would consider myself the oppositive of fit. I'm all mushy. Chat Icon

wow thats amazing!! how did you lose it? i have to get toned. mushy is the perfect word for me. i havent thought about the c section core thing... its a really good point. the only exercise i get is walking up 6 flights of stairs to my office twice a day. my doc wants me to do more but im lazy and in pain all the time.

anyway, do you have an exercise plan?

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

I just counted calories religiously. I started at 1500 calories a day... then did 1350, then settled at 1200 a day for a long while.

I HAAAAATE exercising.

So for now, I'm just going to start getting up a half an hour earlier to do the free-run on wii-fit.

It's better than nothing.

I know I should do something bigger like take a class or join a gym or something but I hate going out in the cold and we're on a tight budget trying to save as much as we can.

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

Honestly... it's not anything serious. It's good for someone like me who isn't looking to go nuts.

I like to do the hula hoop, step aerobics and the 'free run' ... your Wii-person jogs through a park and you pass other Wii people. I only like to do it because we've created wii-people that look like Barack Obama, E.T., Darth Vader, characters from LOST and our relatives/friends so I just put my headphones on and will run and be like 'Hey Darth Vader!'.

I do it for entertainment almost moreso than fitness.

... I feel like I've seen pictures of you -- aren't you already pretty thin?

I did my 30 minutes on the Wii today.

Setting my alarm with my stupid thermometer under my pillow.

Now let's hope I actually get out of bed and do my run :D

I've been trying for a year now with a pregnancy in between. In that time, I haven't gotten a specific routine down but I just recently decided I'm going to try yoga and hopefully that will stick and when I'm pregnant, I'll do prenatal yoga.

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

Hi ladies! Just want to recommend something I've been doing. I started doing pilates mat and pilates reformer classes in June.

The focus is mostly on core strength and the changes that I see and feel have been extraordinary. Everyone asks how much I've lost (really like 5 pounds but looks like more because of my stomach flattened out and my posture is better). Pilates focuses on creating lean muscle and strengthening transverse, pelvic floor...you name it. Your lower back will also thank you as you will strengthen it and it tends to suffer during pregnancy.

HIGHLY recommend it, every gym has at least mat classes and you can find better classes at a yoga studio. I am MUCH more confident ttc now (fingers crossed for Chat Icon soon!) because my core is so much stronger.

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

I recently wrote a whole thread about this. My feeling is that if you're like 10-15lbs overweight you might as well start ttc but if the weight is significant it is prudent to try and lose some first. For me, I am significantly overweight and now I am even more so with 15lbs of "pregnancy weight" still on me 10 months later... Now, even if I lose this weight I am STILL significantly overweight but I don't want to just KEEP adding on, u know? I have decided that we are going to ttc next month- which leaves me with about 4 1/2 weeks of dieting. I know it's the holidays but I plan to go hard and would like to lose 10 this month. I'll settle on still being 5 up when we get a bfp- but in my case I can actually continue to lose weight or at least stay the same during the pregnancy as long as I am eating healthy/enough calories. Hope I didn't hijack your thread, lol, but this is something I have given a lot of thought to!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

I started WW after DS was born and have been on since.

I'm down almost 40 pounds (well, 60 pounds if you count from my weight when I was 9 months pregnant with him).

I'm trying to stay on track while TTC and would like to lose another 10-15 pounds. I'll stay on track while TTC and modify if I get a BFP.

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

me me me! that's where I'm at now too...I am planning on asking my gyn at my next appt in a couple months what I can do to prepare to TTC - especially with some of my health issues I want to be literally in tip top shape before we start, which is good motivation!

I lost about 25 lbs pre-wedding, doing weight watchers and then for the last 6 week pre-wedding I worked with a trainer. I think my plan is to go back to working with a trainer 2x per week, and then do 1 cardio class and 1 pilates class per week

(i just made that routine up in my head right now, so I have no idea if its a good plan or not)

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

i was working out when i got pregnant the first time (lots of brisk walking, some swimming, light weights) and i plan on getting back into a similair routine this time around as well....i am a firm believer that excercise will increase fertility....i also started a lot of good eating habits a month prior to ttc....

i am just about back to my pre-pregnancy weight post d&c 2 weeks ago - i plan on keeping it easy until i cycle and then i will go back into my exercise routine...

i am hoping a few months of exercise/being fit will help when it comes time to go for it again...

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

We plan on TTC around May/June so from now until then I plan on having an exercise routine. We just recently bought an elliptical and a heavy bag so i will be doing the elliptical, light weights and some boxing to try and get in the best shape I can before TTC. I would like to lose at least 15 pounds prior. It is usually very hard for me to lose weight so I will definitely have to cut down on eating as well.

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

I'm in the same boat. We're planning to start TTC in a couple of months and I really need to start being healthier. I never have a problem losing weight by doing a strict diet but I'm terrible with excercise. I'm planning to get my butt in gear and join a gym ASAP.

Glad to see it's not just me Chat Icon

ME!!!!
We are starting late May/June.. whenever my last pack is done. I actually started kickboxing in August to keep in shape, but I intend to keep going! After talking to my dr i am on top of taking my vitamin everyday (with folic acid)... i can usually never remember, but DH reminds me and I also think of why i have to take it and that helps me remember!

Re: Not quite-yet TTCers who want to get in shape...

We're officially starting TTC next month and Ive dropped about 15lbs in the last year and toned up alot from Pilates and weights. Yeah, it was less than I had originally wanted, but I'm ok with it and I dont want to wait anymore. Ideally, I'd like to drop a few more lbs in the next month before we go on vacation and try to get preggers. First I need to stop eating cookies and get my asss on the treadmillChat Icon

Uh, no matter what I do, I maintain weight unfortunately, however, i have increased my vitman intake and I'm walking in cold. I drag DH with me.
