Non stop cough

Ugh- any tips?
DD has a cold and it just seems to not want to leave her body!
She was at the Dr last week and got antibiotics for an ear infection.
No fever, Dr said her lungs were clear.
But for over a week now, she is hacking up a lung all night long.
I don't know how she gets any rest.
It kills me to hear it.
It is definitely worse at night when she is lying down. It sounds kind of like the cough you get with a nasal drip. Like a dry, hacking, irritating cough.

I am running the vaporizer every night non stop. Not sure if it's helping.

I know they can't have cold or cough meds this young - any other tips?
Can I use Vicks Vaporub on a 17 month old?
I just feel so awful for her!

I have given benadryl for the drip and .5 tsp of childrens cough medicine... also an allergy med like zyrtec may help.

I have used the baby vicks on my dd on her chest and on her feet. It really helped her cough stop at night. I dont know how it works on the feet but you put it on with socks. I hope she feels better!

This is what I do and I really find it to help. Right before bed we do a steam shower (run the shower really hot with the door closed until the room fills with steam) - I stand in the room for 5-10 min and tap on their backs in the lung area every so often (this is per the ped btw). Then I put them to sleep - I put baby vicks on their chest, back and feet. I run the humidifier all night long and I put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a bowl somewhere in their room. When I do this - they hardly cough at all! And it usually clears it up in a few days. HTH!

I have to go look for Baby Vicks today.
And the eucalyptus oil sounds interesting too!

It just doesn't seem to want to leave her and it's heartbreaking to hear her cough all night long!

Vicks sells a liquid vaporizer you put right into the water. I think that helps alot.

just make sure its not a bark like cough then it could be croup and you would want to get that check asap

yeah, and with the whooping cough outbreak I'm getting a bit concerned...DD has her vax but I'm still going to talk to the doctor at her checkup tomorrow. i hope your DD is feeling better soon.

I took DD to the ped yesterday because she has the same awful cough and was literally coughing/crying every 10 mins throughout the night on Sun. The ped said tylenol, vicks, humidifier, elevate the crib if possible, and also that we could give her a little bit of honey before bed. She was post nasal drip and that's what's causing the cough. She said the honey would help coat her throat so she doesn't have that urge to cough.

can you prop up one end of her mattress?

i understand it wouldn't work if you have a squirmy worm, but just a suggestion

We are gonna try that, but this child sleeps over the ENTIRE area of that crib.
No area is left unused...she is ALL over the place!

Sounds like post nasal drip. I would try the honey. Try benadryl for one night and see if it works.

DS has the same thing and it is just torture to listen to. I keep asking if his throat or ears or anything hurts and he keeps saying no but it sounds so awful.The doctor said there isnt much to be done other than what other posters have mentioned and to go in for a visit if it goes on longer than 2 weeks.
