What do you do for a non-stop cough?

DD (3) has a cold and is up in her room sleeping. She has been coughing almost non-stop for about 10-15 minutes now. Not a croupy cough though. I plan to take her to the doctor tomorrow but I was wonderig if there is anything I can do now to make it stop.

I already put on the humidifier.

Re: What do you do for a non-stop cough?

Sorry to crash parenting - when my step daughter (6) has a bad cough (happens a lot in the winter) we put vicks vapor rub on the soles of her feet (slather it on!) And put socks on her - not exactly sure why it works - was one of those old wives tales we tried, it works, so we have stuck with it. Hope it helps!

my kid isnt that big.. sorry Chat Icon

I just give AJ a spoon full of honey after some motrin. Motrin to stop the tickle, reduce the irritation from coughing. Honey to soothe and coat her throat. Helps produce saliva I think (or I choose to believe)

When I was preggo my doctor would not allow cough drops! I was dying with a cold that felt like the end of the world. I never realized how much we rely on over the counter stuff. So I learned alternatives. Hot water with lemon and honey. Warm milk with sugar or honey to get me to sleep and tylenol. They were my saviors!

Hope she feels better soon.
