We used our bank - Greenpoint Mortgage. Fantastic experience - everything went super smooth and our closing was done in an hour!

Opteum Financial was AMAZING!! I don't know if they're in NY (but I think so since their HQ are in NJ). Love them!

I didn't like Country Wide so much when I was dealing with them...

Re: What morgage company did you have...

I just had to ditch AHM 2 weeks before closing because they raised my interest rate 2 weeks before closing..AFTER I already signed commitment letters, locked my rate and had done all the legwork.

Countrywide can close a loan in 5 days!! Im surprised. If you want to call my girl at Countrywide she could get it finished for you quickly. She did it for us! Lauren Siliato- 631-847-8224 or lsiliato on LIW.

ETA: AHM is a broker. They can call themselves a lender b/c technically they can hold the loans but they sell their loans off once you close.

Re: What morgage company did you have...

We went through a mortgage broker, PJM Mortgage in Uniondale, but I think they moved.

They got us a great rate with ABN AMRO and so far we have no problems.

If Im gonna get a better rate then I dont care about starting over.. Country wide keeps changing everything on me daily ( every call is " i think we're gonna do it this way" or " lets do it that way")

Re: What morgage company did you have...

we used financial equities-hated them & the broker. We got sold three times in the first four months & landed with GMAC who I hate with a passion. They effed up my escrow account, the customer service people are snotty, if they can even speak english. We almost paid 12k to refinance just to get away from them.
I wish a had a great experience, but I didn't at all.

American Home Mortgage- EXCELLENT service. They must have answered a billion of my questions.
A lot of workers there are former WAMU mortgage people.

Almost right away our mortgage was sold to Wells Fargo.

We worked with Christine Perlow at Preferred Empire (mortgage brokers) and they were terrific - no repeated nonsense on getting paperwork and everything went smoothly. Got a great rate with ABN AMRO also and I've been told that they hang on to mortgages - none of the nonsense of selling them to other companies so we're not constantly getting switched around.

A great experience with?

I was liking this guy from Country Wide but now after 2 weeks of dragging his Butt.. im starting to get nervous..
I need a loan QUICK..
I have an apt with American Home Morgage on Monday...

I had American Home Mortgage for my last mortgage. They were great after my old mortgage company(Marina Mortgage) sold my loan to them and took a double payment from my account. They paid for all my bounced check fees and fixed everything and it wasn't even their fault.

We got the mortgage with a broker but wound up having Countrywide buy it. So far, so good.
