Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
I can see registering for high priced stuff for people to chip or to purchase later with the completion program most stores have. But I think it's very rude to not include gifts in all price points. Three people should be able to chip in and get a nice gift they feel comfortable giving.

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
We did Fortunoff for higher end gifts and target for people who couldn't spend 100.00 plus on gifts.
Nobody says you have to get a gift off the registry

I agree.
I can also understand if people add those things so that they get the discount after the wedding, but if there's no variation, then it completely defeats the purpose.

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
i think it varies from person to person.
my registry was very basic. i didnt want people saying that i'm crazy for wanting really expensive items. i mean, their supposed to be gifts so i dont think its right to take advantage of people. and if i wanted something REALLY nuts then i would buy it myself.

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
I did Macy's and Target. Macy's was for my china that my MIL got most of for me anyways.
My husband and I both lived on our own, and then together before we got married so didn't really see the point in asking for a ton of stuff we wouldn't need.
I did ask for a few sheet and comforter sets and towels and such because IMO, you can never have enough of that stuff.
Registry etiquette specifically states that you do a wide variety of very low end to "some" higher end stuff.

I have 3 weddings coming up in June. What ever happened to registering at Bed, Bath & Beyond? Is that not a "cool" store because they dont have a $400 knife block set, or $500 quilt sets? Even if I go in for a gift with my MIL and SIL, for what we are each willing to pay each, we can get the brides 2 pillow shams. But I cant just give 2 pillow shams - I would feel sooooooo cheap!! Ill probably wind up buying a whole lot of smaller kitchen utensils, but my point (rant) is that wedding registries are getting RIDICULOUS!!!
I registered for things at every price level but it just so happens that my pillow shams were on the expensive side, so someone got me only the pillow shams for my shower. I was very happy. I knew they had spent a lot and they got me something I really wanted! The person that got me only 2 plain pillow cases after I had spent a lot on gifts for her---that is another story!!!!!

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
It is out of control! I understand all price points, but when most is over $200 you feel . If the point is to save after the wedding I would do word or mouth. Even baby reg are getting I have a shower tomorrow and I about fainted when I printed her 8 PAGE list. Unless I get her clothes everything is atleast $70.00

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
My brother and SIL registered at Fortunoff's. I said to him "Oh, and where else"..He just looked at me. They got the hint! They also registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. My sister and I(MOH) and my nephew were all in the wedding shelling out enough money as it was (oh and 2 bridal showers as well..long story), but, there was no way I was going to shop in Fortunoffs too. Just couldn't do it. They registered for their china and bedding at Fortunoff and the "basics" all at Bed Bath and Beyond. I may have came off a little "B i t c h y" but I was like "Yea, ok"..I'll tell you flat out, no way could I have done it.. Oh, and I was pregnant too, so, add a baby coming into the world. I LOVE my brother and SIL to pieces, but, this just irked me!

That is a great idea. Fortunoff should not be the main registry store!
I don't think Fortuoff being the main registry is the problem, it is the type of stuff they registered for. Fortunoff was my main registry, but I did not have china or crystal on my registry. My dishes were Fiestaware (less than $30 a place setting) and my flatware was stainless steel - the set was under $50.00. A lot of our housewares were pretty reasonable as well.
I do agree, though, that they should be considerate of guests and register for a range of stuff.

I agree ... registries (both bridal and baby) are totally out of control. I've gotten to the point of just giving a gift card for an amount I feel comfortable with ... and leaving it at that.

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
My future SIL just registered at BBB and when I looked I nearly
Now I know I was an extreme exception- my registry was full of basics and no china- but she has put on a $75 gravy boat!!!! I didnt think gravy needed something so luxurious to sit in
Add on top that DH needs to get a tux to be in the BP, plus we need to fly to TX for the weekend so car rental + hotel 3 nights AND her shower in March on top of that and we are BROKE

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
we registered at BBB (our main registry), Crate & Barrel, and Macy's (for a few items the other places didn't have).
Our items range from a $1.95 olive spoon to a $400 Dyson vaccuum. A lot of things on the Crate & Barrel registry were parts of sets that could be purchased individually (like wine glasses that were $8 each, etc) so people could put together whatever they wanted in the amount they wanted.
The only things I think were a bit over the top were our china (not an overly expensive pattern, but still who *really* needs a $100 sugar bowl?) I think people like giving china because our entire set w/ accessories has been purchased except for one vegetable bowl. They also have great sales on china.
As for pillow shams, ours were $40 each when not on sale and we got one sham from a friend who couldn't make our e-party. It's kind of funny though since we only have one sham!

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
I'm going to a shower in a few months and went to BBB to buy their gifts. They registered at Fortunoff too, but I thought the BBB was more reasonable.
The bride and gromm literally registered for everything. From a $250 fire pit, to a $5.99 picture frame. AT first, I was like, is she kidding me, then I realized that we did the same thing. We registered for it all, no one said anyone had to buy it all.

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
give me a break- if that is the item you want- why should you pick a less expensive one to please other people??
there is no law that you have to buy them a $500 coffee mug- but the whole point of a registry - is a wish list of items you want
it's their wedding- their house- let them choose what they want for it

Re: Wedding registries are getting ridiculous!
I know someone who registered for bedding that came to over $1200 Since each piece was seperate she ended up not getting any of it. AND they never bought if for themselves. They ended up buying something more reasonable. So what was the point of registering for the bedding? Just so someone else could buy it?

what's so amazing about that? it's the truth
if everything seems really expensive on the registery- get them something else-
who cares - it's a celebration!

I guess I can agree with this. it is a "wish list". there were plenty of things we didn't get from our registry.
like I said before, I went to a friends shower years ago and she comes from SERIOUS money! she registered for things that were WAY WAY WAY out of my budget. I couldn't afford 1 thing. I don't think there was anything on her registries that was less than $300.
so like I said, I gave her a GC.

That's how it looks. The whole point of a registry is not an overall wish list in my opinion, especially when people come to showers who don't necessarily know you well or what kinds of things you need.
It's fine to put some things on there that you would "wish" to have, but not every single freakin' thing. That's just very unclassy.
Is this a NY or LI bride? IMO, this is what gives people who live here such a bad rep.
