Nice old ladies
Am I the only one that gets annoyed by old ladies constantly stopping me in public to oogle my kids? It is very hard to pack my kids up, get out of the house, pack them in a stroller, get into a store, keep them quiet for the time to run and get out. My youngest has stranger phobia so any stranger that talks to her sends her into hysterics. No I don't want to stop and have you talk to them and ask how old they are. A polite smile will do.
I am cranky and evil for being annoyed at nice old ladies complimenting my children I know lol.

Re: Nice old ladies
I welcome the attention from older ladies as do my kids but they don't have Grandparent's so maybe that's why...

Sorry but yes
I don't even get what there is to be annoyed about?
Is EVERY one of them stopping you for a half hour to tell you how cute your children are? I'm sure it's way less than that...
IMO nothing to be annoyed about, they are telling you sweet things about your kids...enjoy it.

I kinda gotta agree with this. I stop for a moment and realize the world doesn't revolve around me and my chaotic life. It's nice to make a stranger smile. Especially older people who may not have little grandchildren, not live by them or they don't visit. I don't know what's going on in their lives but just a smile that made their day made mine. Don't mean to sound sentimental or anything bc I'm usually not. I have one 98 yr old grandfather now and just thinking how lonely he is in Florida not being able to see his great grandchildren much. Makes me sad so I'm sure when he does go out seeing a young child puts a smile on his face. DH's grandmother died of Alzheimer's. The family always brought the grandchildren to the nursing home when she was alive and it made all the elderly people's day. They don't get much visitors, but they always smiling watching babies and children play.
ETA - you also have "nice old ladies" in the subject. It's not like they're mean and bitter to you and you're children. They're nice. Really only time I get it is a certain supermarket I shop at where they bus in older people in a nearby community. Other than that I'm out and don't get it often.

I agree with you!! I get sad thinking that maybe they have no one near them, or their families don't visit enough as well.
When my 98 year old grandmother was in a nursing home for rehab last year, I took my DS to see her 2-3 times a week. All the people in there would smile from ear to ear at him and want to give him kisses and hugs. It made their days.

Re: Nice old ladies
I get what you're saying. Sometimes when I take DD out for a walk so she'll take a nap, people like to look in the stroller and I want to be like "shhhhhhhhh, I'm trying to get her to sleep!" Lol
Take it as a compliment, you must have some cute kiddies!

Re: Nice old ladies
I don't mind it at all. If it takes me an extra 30 seconds for my son to put a smile on someone else's face, then that's fine.

Nice old ladies
It only bothers me when people touch her...and they go right for her hands which them go right into her mouth.
We get stopped a lot, almost every single time we are in public. These "nice old ladies" light up and dd gives them the biggest smile back. I can see how happy it makes them and in turn I'm glad dd gets exposure to other people.

Re: Nice old ladies
I find it really sweet when older people come over and talk to DS. I just think of my own grandma, who always tells me when she sees a little boy when she's out that reminded her of my son. I hope the mothers she encounters appreciates the attention and is respectful to her.
These people only have the best intentions. We're all gonna be old one day.

Nice old ladies
I thought you were going to say that you are annoyed with old ladies touching your babies - that is the only thing that annoys me! I hate it when anyone tries to hold my baby's hands and all the old ladies go right for them! You can't be annoyed at people complementing your kids!

Re: Nice old ladies
I don't blame you one bit! While it's nice that old ladies like little kids, etc. That doesn't mean we have to want to stop & talk to strangers. I'm always nice & polite to them, but I'd much rather they left us alone. My DD actually screamed and cried in the supermarket once bc an old man said hello to her and she was going through a phase where she was terrified of men w/deep voices. Totally turned a simple shopping trip into chaos. So I feel your pain!

Re: Nice old ladies
I should have added that they do usually touch my child with the compliment but I will be more patient and take the extra 5 minutes. I didn't mean to offend Grandmas, I love them and hope to be one in the (distant) future.

Re: Nice old ladies
Between your DD crying over a strangers looking at her and your anger toward these strangers, I would say anti social is a better description than evil and cranky
I get stopped everywhere with my kids. DH and I just have to deal.

I don't mind the attention, I just get annoyed when they feel the need to give unsolicited advice on how to raise my kid. I'm doing just fine, thank you.

My DD was like that when she was about 18 months...like, "hey, why aren't you paying attention to me? I'm cute!"
I love when my DD can put a smile on someone's face and only have a problem if someone touches her. I think it's sweet when senior citizens stop to talk with us, and it makes me miss my grandmothers.

Re: Nice old ladies
I totally get it. I get annoyed too. I'm not one to like talking to strangers at CVS. I get that some people can chat up anyone, but that's not me. I just find it awkward when the old ladies ask DS a lot of questions which he doesn't answer because he's shy but they stand there waiting for an answer. Then I feel compelled to answer for him because I know the attention is making him uncomfortable.

This. Enjoy it now because when your kids are older and no longer want to shop with you I bet you will miss the days when the nice old ladies used to stop you to tell you they were cute.

Re: Nice old ladies
Do you have twins? Everyone stops when you have twins. I can't stop 2-5 mins for all 10 ppl to talk to us bc I get about 22.4 minutes in any given store before complete meltdown and that's only if snacks are given. So I hear ya!! But I'll admit- if no one bats an eye at them I'm like "wth"?? Lol. It was worse when they were younger but they sat longer then. I usually smile politely, thank them and keep moving.

Re: Nice old ladies
I think you are being cranky actually. I don't mind at all when older people or pretty much anyone for that matter stops to compliment or talk to my kids. It's wonderful for my 2 yo DS to practice saying hi and meeting all sorts of different people. I don't always have the time to sit and chat but I just excuse myself if I have to go. It doesn't bother us one bit.

Re: Nice old ladies
OP, despite what is being said here, you are NOT alone! I hate when strangers talk to my kids. We tell them not to talk to strangers but then they are supposed to be nice to random weirdos in stores? And yes I think that old women who want to stop and talk to a woman they have never met just because her kids are cute classify as weirdos. Same goes for random guys like the head of lifeguards from some gym I have never heard of who wanted to give my kids high-5s yesterday at BJs. Go the f*ck away. I am not cranky, I just have no desire to socialize with someone I don't know just because they like the way my kids look. So strange.
