Re: newborn moms- sone questions

1. Do u nap when baby naps -
HA... No, I wish I did. It was hard b/c so many pple were visiting and then it was the time to get things done. There were times I did nap early in the morning or I'd lay down and rest.

2. How often do u bathe dc
after the umbillical cord fell off I want to say every other day. I still do every other and Mason is 6 mons. I do a sponge bath in-between.. wipe him down in the sink

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
Around 2 weeks maybe... Mason was born in the Spring so I just did walks then we were totally out a lot around 1 month

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
yes... but nothing big... oh, and Hanukkah Chat Icon We're doing small gifts... clothes, personalized books, other personalized things like sippy cup. I know my parent's and in-laws will spoil him

5. What is your day like
on maternity leave i remember he ate every 3 hours clock work, listen to music, went in swing, bouncy, naps, more music, get stuff done around the house, visit friends, had friends over, fam visited, shopping, etc

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

He's 9 weeks now

1. I used to try to nap when he did but it was hard because I had things to do. My mom would come over so I could nap when he was napping and it helped.

2. We would do a sponge bath and then regular bath like every 2-3 days. Still do 2-3 days.

3. We don't take our DS out except to grandma and grandpas. No stores, restaurants, nothing. I just can't justify taking the chance that he will get sick.
I waited my whole life to have him, surely I can wait a few months before enjoying going out, shopping with him, and eating out. Just my opinion. We did go for walks though.

4. Yes! Even though DS is only 2 months we got him a bunch of presents for 6 months and are getting some made by Lamaze and Infantino that he can use now. They have 0 months+ and 3months+

5. Now I'm back at work so I really can't answer that anymore Chat Icon I used to get nothing done, except bottles and laundry. He was in my arms, in the swing, bouncy, next to me - honestly, i was exhausted and didn't really enjoy that whole newborn period. I just felt and still feel so clueless. I tried singing to him and dancing around too.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

The first two-three weeks I did nap when my oldest son napped and Tyler would sleep on me. Those days are long gone. Too much to do when Jack is napping and Tyler won't have it either.

I bathe him every two-three days.

He comes with me to pick up/drop off Jack from school. To run local errands. He has not been around any of my nieces/nephews or anyplace where alot of people are. We had a huge breakfast with santa the other day at my parents country club with my entire family and I had my aunt watch him. Still too many germs for me to take him out and about.

I am not getting him anything for Christmas. Anything he gets now, Jack takes from him anyway so I'm waiting till next yr.

My day is nuts, crazy, insane, but I have two so you can't go by me. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DD is 12 weeks

1. Do u nap when baby naps
rarely, and never when shes was first born. i always felt like there was something to do, whether it was pump or wash bottles. it is the best thing for you but its not practical!

2. How often do u bathe dc
her umbillical cord fell off INTHE HOSPITAL Chat Icon so we were basically able to bathe her from the time she came home. at first it was always everyother day, now sometimes everyday.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
her first trip out was to the Ped at 6 days old. we stopped by work after (we work together) so everyone could meet her, but we made sure no one was sick. shes been out most days since and hasnt been sick.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
a few small things. 2 lamaze toys, christmas eve on sesame street DVD. we didnt go crazy bc i know my family will

5. What is your day like
she usually wakes around 9 and has a bottle (she STTN since 10 weeks). shes usually happy and giggly so we talk and I get her ready for the day. change her, little massage with lotion, etc. then we play. usually bumbo first bc she has good neck control bc shes wide awake. rotate swing, bouncer, playmat, my lap. then do it all over again all day long Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon i LOVE being at home with her but im SO BORED!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon ill also read to her, sing (not well Chat Icon ), talk, sit at the computer with her, watch some TV (she LOVES it, i guess the light). then we wait for daddy to come home around 530. best time of the day! Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DS is two weeks old.

1. Do u nap when baby naps

I have tried once or twice, but never get more than 20 minutes sleep. Luckly, DH is amazing and he does the 12pm and 6am feedings so I only have to get up for the 3am feeding, meaning I am getting a fair amount of sleep most nights.

2. How often do u bathe dc
His umbilical cord hasn't fallen off yet. We sponge bathe him every other day.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
We took him to Kohls and Babies R Us at one week old. We kept him covered up in his car seat, and no one came near him. Also my ILs watch him once a week so we can do our grocery shopping. This weekend, I think we are going to venture out to dinner. Haven't decided whether to bring him with us yet or just have my ILs watch him. Next week, I will bring him into my office for our annual potluck.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas

DH wanted to give him some toys he bought, but he is too little. I bought him a WubbaNub pacifier and wrapped that to give him, so he has a gift from us. I know that our parents plan to spoil him.

5. What is your day like
Pretty uneventful. Feed the baby, comfort the baby, watch TV, sit online for a while, do laundry (a load every other day), and sterilize bottles.

1. not at first - but i sure learned quick that i had to. sleep deprivation is HORRID.

2. we were told no more than twice a week or the baby's skin can dry out. Em has ecxema so we listened to that rule!

3. i took her out right away - but it was june. i'd likely do the same now - just make sure she was warm enough.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

1. Do u nap when baby naps
*LOL No way. Not with a 2.5 yr old running around. IF I get them to nap at the same time I'll catch up on DVR'd shows

2. How often do u bathe dc
*Every other night

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
*Oh yea...she goes where I go. She's been to playdates, GTG's, restaurants, aquarium, shopping...etc etc. I get out for 2-3 hours alone if I have to, spin class mainly, or to run to the store. But she's BFing so I'm limited.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
*There are diapers and wipes on her wish list Chat Icon

5. What is your day like
*Crazy. Try to get out with the girls in the morning...so we're out by 9ish. Home for nap 12:30-2 (for 2.5 yr old)...playtime till Daddy gets home.
It's all weather permitting. Either we go to friend's houses, park, aqaurium or we stay home. I have to try to get out for my other daughter so she's usually in my arms while I'm doing things with her, or napping in her swing.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

1. Do u nap when baby naps
- Sometimes - obviously only if I'm tired. Ususally I find the time to get things done in the house.

2. How often do u bathe dc
- Once or twice a week. He gets daily sponge baths/wipe downs before getting dressed for the day.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
- I've taken DC out since day one. I've only been out twice without him & it was torture - I hated leaving him, but it's inevitable when I go back to work. I EBF (no pumping yet) so I had to be back in time before his next feeding. We go out just about daily. Whether it's for walks or to the store or taking Daddy to work.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
- We weren't planning on it...but just yesterday DH said he wants to get him something, so I'm sure he'll get a few things.

5. What is your day like
- Days that I'm home I like to read to him, sing to him & narrate everything I do throughout the day. Lately we've been working on different fabrics - letting him touch lots of different things. Right now he's staring at the Christmas Tree lights & is happy talking up a storm.
Other days we're running to the store or visiting Daddy for lunch at work.

ETA: Lately...our days are filled with dancing. We crank the "Tropicales" channel on Cablevision (DS choice..ONLY music he likes Chat Icon), then we dance around the house. All the bouncing helps with his gas.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

I'll answer from last year, bc DS was only 2 months old around xmas.

1. Do u nap when baby naps-I never did, I can't sleep during the day.

2. How often do u bathe dc-Once every three days when he was a newborn, if not longer between baths.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out-We went out after 2 weeks.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas-We did. DH and I each bought him a small toy, then had a couple of other little things for him. Maybe 5 small toys in all.

5. What is your day like-Feed baby, fall back asleep, wake at next feeding. Get up, feed baby, change him into clothes, put him down if he was tired. Take shower. Get dressed, do laundry -AGAIN- feed baby, eat lunch if I remembered, hold baby, watch tv. Feed baby, get something ready for dinner, wait for DH to come home etc.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

1. Do u nap when baby naps---no, never. I always tell myself I will but never do.

2. How often do u bathe dc--- He took his first bath last night and will probably take one every 2/3 days

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out--- I've taken him out many times. I'm not BFing so it makes it easier for me. I also leave him in his carseat with the cover over his car seat and don't allow anyone to touch him. I personally cannot stay in the house without going insane.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas--- a few toys but nothing else.

5. What is your day like----feed him, change him, play with him (sing, read, tummy time, play mat), then he naps...thenI run around doing things then it's the same thing over again. Today I sat him on the boppy next to me and we "watched" prop and landing, the christmas disney movie that was on last night lol. He's very alert and loves to just look around at everything. I sometimes walk around the house and show him things b/c I don't know what else to do haha

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DD is 3 weeks old:

1. Do u nap when baby naps- I did a little bit at the beginning, but now after her morning bottle (between 6 or 7), I'll put her back in her crib and we both go back to bed until between 9 and 10.

2. How often do u bathe dc- sponge bath daily, baths every other day or every couple of days

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out- I've been going out since the beginning. We go to my mom's, church, over to one of my friend's. DH and I dropped her off at my mom's a few times, and went to the movies, food shopping. BRU. I'd go crazy at home. It does take forever to get out, and I was soo scared at first to bring her places alone, but once I did it, I was fine!

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas- no- she has so much stuff she hasn't even worn yet, or used yet, I feel like it's wasteful. She won't know the difference.

5. What is your day like- wake up at 9 or 10, dress and feed baby, try to shower, try to do housework, feed her again, go out wherever, come home, feed again, DH gets home, one of us makes dinner.

1. Do u nap when baby naps
Nope - I tried in the beginning (he's 3 months now), but I could never seem to sleep when he did. I think my mind was too busy racing with the things I "should" be doing (like cleaning the house) and it kept me up.

2. How often do u bathe dc
Every 2 or 3 days. I wipe him down with a wipe & wash his hands & face every day though.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
The first few weeks I would only take him for walks around the block, to the park or my parent's house. At about a month we did a family party or two and at about 2 or 2 1/2 months we started taking him out to the store with us.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
Just a special ornament & some stocking stuffers (rattles, teethers, etc). We're putting $$ in his bank account instead.

5. What is your day like
In the beginning I was pretty useless - it's all becoming a blur already. I did lots of sitting on the couch holding him while reading to or playing with him. As he got older (about a month or so) I got better at putting him down to straighten up and getting him out of the house. After about 2 months things really started to change...he's tons of fun now & we
play a lot :) Now that I'm back at work it's get up & nurse him, get ready for work, get him ready, drop him off at my mom's if he's going there, work, go there at lunch to nurse him, pick him up, play, play, play, bath time and then bed time. It's exhausting, but wonderful Chat Icon

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DS is now 3 months old

1) do you nap when DC naps?
In the beginning, YES! Not all naps but I would take at least 2 naps with him. This way I was well rested in case we had a bad night (which rarely happened).

2) How often do you bathe DC?
His umbilical cord fell off the 2nd day at home. So I started to give him a bath every other day or every 2 days. Now at 3 months, it is every other bc he is a sweaty baby

3) Have you take DC out or do you go out?
DS was out & about at 2.5 weeks old with DH & I. I took DS out alone once I was given the OK from my OB since I had a section. DS & I went for walks daily around the neighborhood. He didn't go to the actual stores until he was 3.5-4 weeks old

4) Are you getting DC anything for XMas?
Yes but we are going light knowing that our families are spoiling him rotten. I just could not see not giving him something even though he will not even remember it. We are getting him some DVD's, educational toys & some muscial things.

5) What is your day like?
My day usually begins around 7-7:30 when DC wakes up for his morning bottle. After feeding him, we usually play & sing..he is usually down for his morning nap at 8:30 & sleeps until his next bottle at 10-10:30. In the time he is napping, I make my bed, get dressed & pick his clothes out for the day. After his 10am bottle, I dress him & usually we head out for errands if we have them. I am usually back in the house for his 1pm bottle. Since DS is eating every 3 hours, after each bottle, we play, do tummy time. I prepare dinner around 5ish with DS in his bouncer....Once DH gets home, I straighten up the house & do my work (since I am WAH right now) & off to bed once DS is in his crib (9:30ish)

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DD is 9 weeks old

1. Do u nap when baby naps
Not usually. I did try the first few weeks b/c I was recovering from the c-section. DD started sleeping 6 hour stretches at night when she was 6 weeks-- since then I'm up when she naps doing stuff around the house.
2. How often do u bathe dc
1x a day unless she needs an impromptu bath like the other day when she had adiaper blow out that required her clothes being ripped off and thrown out
3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
I've been taking DD on walks since the day after we got home from the hospital. After her 1 month appt. we started taking her out in public. I try to avoid crowded places at crowded times (eg. mall on weekend) but if I have to get stuff done and she has to come with me then I don't hesitate to bring her. I've been out by myself and it's wonderful!
4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
Yes! We got her a couple of books, pjs that she needs and we'll get her a few toys
5. What is your day like
I get up at 5 so that I have some time to myself and also because I'm going back to work next week and need time to readjust to early wake up. (I get about an hour to myself Chat Icon before DH gets up)then I go to the gym, DD gets a bottle, play time, nap, repeat until DH comes home from work. I try to follow a loose schedule of eat, play sleep. DD eats every 3-4 hours. I sneak in a shower every day although I rarely apply makeup when DH isn't home

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

1. I was never able to nap when DD napped - I can't sleep during the day.

2. We bathe her 2x a week.

3. We would take her out to family, dr & for walks only until she turned 8 weeks old as per our ped. We now take her with us if we know we won't be out too long. DD is EBF, and i'm not comfortable feeding her in public (but i'll feed her in the car). We can't give her a bottle if i'm anywhere near her, she'll refuse it.

4. we bought her a lot of toys that she can use through the year. also some books.

5. while i was on maternity leave it was wake up, feed her, change her, watch a little tv, nap, swing, bouncer, playmat, tummy time. i would do chores while she slept. when she got a cold i took her in the bathroom with me while i showered. i'm now back to work so she gets up, eats, gets ready for grandmas.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

Well, I am not currently a mom of a newborn, but DD1 was born Dec 1, 2008, so I will answer based on what I did with her.

1. Do u nap when baby naps.
Sometimes...definitely not always. I tried to work out when she napped.

2. How often do u bathe dc.
every 2-3 days.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out.
I first took her out at at 5/6 weeks. I went to the gym 2 blocks away while she napped, and FH and I went to dinner about 5 blocks away while she slept. Other than that, I did not go out.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
No, I didnt. but i got a ton of baby's 1st christmas ornaments and loved taking them out this year.

5. What is your day like. nurse, change diaper, hold, repeat :) I got very into House and some other shows. I loved hanging out with her at home all day.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

1. Do u nap when baby naps
I did sometimes at first but I would find that when I would sleep an hour or so (baby was sleeping for good periods during the day) I would wake up feeling groggy and a million times worse so I mostly stopped that. Though now (he's 3 months) sometimes after he eats in the morning I'll snuggle him on the couch and nod off here and there for a few minutes.)

2. How often do u bathe dc
We do about twice a week. He seems to have really dry patches so we don't want to make it worse.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
Yes, we took him out pretty early - we went to a street fare when he was about 2 weeks old and we go to the stores and stuff. I don't go out with him that much by myself though - mostly b/c I have a hard time getting the both of us ready.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
I had said maybe we shouldn't really bother- I'm sure other people will be spoiling him. But we have gotten him a handful of little things. He is finally now seeming interested in stuff.

5. What is your day like
DS eats about every 3 hours or so. After breakfast he sometimes naps. We play on his play mat, swings in his swing. Lately been trying to get him to nap in his crib. Try for some tummy time which he hates. Sometimes if it's nice out we take a walk either in the carrier or stroller.

ds is 7 moths now- but when he was a newborn for the first 8 weeks i was home from work....
1. Do u nap when baby naps - no. great advice, tough to do. I kept doing chores research and relaxing watching a show.
2. How often do u bathe dc- every other day- this is what the nicu did so i continued it. although i hear alot of girls do every night and it helps baby for a bedtime routine- so id say try that first cause ds still wakes up in the middle of the night once although we no longer feed/change him then.
3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out- rarely went out- wanted to avoid swine flu. take walks- or get the netting for public to avoid strangers grubby hands.
4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas- yes, spending about $50- get the gifts that are good for 6month plus cause his birthday is a ways away.... stacking rings, blocks, cups. sensory balls.extra stroller clip on toys.
5. What is your day like- every 3 hours- diaper change, bottle & burps & spitup - nap or play on mat on back or other play until 3 hours up and repeat....

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DD is 2 1/2 months now.

1. Do u nap when baby naps - In the beg. I tried to. I probably did only a few times due to many visitors and just trying to get stuff done around the house. I still try every so often to nap when she does but probably only do that 1 or 2x a week.

2. How often do u bathe dc- I was doing it every other day but her skin and scalp became very dry so now I am doing it every 3 days or so. On days when I don't give her a bath I wipe her down with a warm wash cloth or a baby wipe usually at night.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out - Yes I started to at 2 weeks but only to close family and the store if I was in and out quick.

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas - We celebrate Hanukkah and Xmas and I don't think we are b/c I am going back to work on 1/4 and $ is really tight right now. I know between all our family getting gifts she won't really need us to get anything, LOL. We are grateful.

5. What is your day like - I am still home on maternity leave until 1/4 so now she gets up usually around 6:30 or 7 am...gets a bottle...usually goes back to sleep after the bottle...I usually do a dishwash or unpack it, laundry...go on the computer...sometimes lay back down. When she gets up again we play and feed her again (she eats every 3 hours). She naps again usually after that bottle. Sometimes I do errands or clean...things we play during the day...we sing to music, well I do, lol, read, goes in swing, bouncy, activity matt, mobile in her crib she plays with, TV....we try to stay busy, LOL

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DD is 9 weeks old

1. Do u nap when baby naps
Sometimes - moreso in the beginning. DD will nap around 2/3 and some days I nap with her. She also naps after her first feeding of the day and I go back to bed also.

2. How often do u bathe dc
Usually every other day unless she needs it.

3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
Yes - we started going out for walks and to the grandma's houses very early. I've taken her to stores and the mall and kept her bundled up and away from people. It's very liberating to get out and it gets easier each time!

4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
Haven't gotten her anything yet, but I will. I buy her things whenever I see something I like, but will get her a few things so we have some pics on XMas morning.

5. What is your day like
DD usually wakes up between 4-5 to eat and we both go back to bed. She wakes up about 3 hours later to eat and then falls asleep again. I'll usually get up, have breakfast, straighten up, go on the computer etc. Sometimes I go back to sleep again with her. She's up around 10-11 for the day. I bathe her, change her, feed her, go in the bouncy. Take her in the bathroom while I shower and dry my hair. Some days we'll take a walk or go somewhere in the early afternoon. If we're in the car, she sleeps. Feed her again and maybe she'll nap. Around 4 I start dinner and put her in the bjorn while I cook/clean up. Feed her again, she'll nap in the bouncy or swing. DH comes home, she'll wake up while we eat dinner. We read/sing/play with her and she'll nap again. Then she eats/plays with us until 9-10 and goes to bed for 6 plus hours.

Re: newborn moms- sone questions

DC are 15 days old today -

1. I napped once when they napped. Once my mom leaves I will try to do this more.

2. Their umbilical cords fell off yesterday, we will do the first real bath this weekend and then probably twice a week. They both have dry skin.

3. They have been to the pediatrician twice and today I took them for their first walk around the block. My pediatrician told me to wait until 8 weeks to go out other places because they were born a month early. My mom is staying with us so I have been out a bunch of times alone with DH running errands, doctor, etc. This has been a real sanity-saver.

4. I got DH some books from the boys. Other than that I am not getting them anything, I know family will spoil them.

5. We wake to feed every three hours. I do all feedings with my mom or DH except for the 6 am (I sleep from 3:30 am to 8:30 am, my mom does the 6 am by herself). In between feedings/diaper changes they pretty much just sleep. I try to shower, make bottles, laundry, clean up, watch TV, internet, etc. They are coming to life a little bit more every day, today we went for a walk and then they spent some time in the bouncy seat. That's about it for now LOL.

1. Do u nap when baby naps
2. How often do u bathe dc
3. Have u taken dc out yet or do u go out
4. Are you getting dc anything for Xmas
5. What is your day like

I hardly nap when the baby naps but If I'm really tired I try to (maybe once or twice a week Ill take a good nap when he is)

I bath his about 2 times a week but sponge bath him everyday (for tush!). If he has a really big messy poop I will give him a bath right then and there.

I go out a little bit, but not much. I have taken my son out a few times (to see Santa, bbb, grandma's houses, for breakfast. I mostly only take him out with my husband and never alone (not ready)

Yes, a few small things for xmas (not going crazy) and will prob add some $ to his bank account. I also told my family to get him some bonds.

My day revolves around Santino! We play and talk all day, but he is napping a few times a day consistantly and this allows me to have some time for myself (Shower, chat, clrean ect) I'm not as tired anymore and look forward to my days with the baby. Before I was very tired and kind of in a fog, but it's getting better everydayChat Icon
