Neighbor's dog keeps pooing on our lawn!! **UPDATED**
As some of you already know, DH and I just moved into a new house in NC about a month ago.
Our next door neighbor has a large dog that is allowed to wander frequently (I should add that there are no leash laws in NC). A few times, I've found dog c r a p on our lawn, but it's usually disappeared the same day.
This time we have a particularly large pile right on our front lawn. I went over today and said to the neighbor "Not to be a pain, but we keep finding dog poo on our lawn. There's a big pile on our front lawn, and I'd appreciate it if you'd pick it up". He didn't seem happy about the confrontation, but neither of us were nasty about it.
We came back from the pool two hours later, and it's still sitting on the front lawn.
How should I handle this? This is SOOOO not what I need right now. 
UPDATE 8/7: While they weren't home, I took their rake and dustpan that was sitting outside. I gathered the offensive pile up, brought it over to their lawn, and dumped it allllllll over the side of their driveway. I hope they get the hint...it's still sitting there!

Something similar happened to my mom (Maathy317 on here). When they first moved in the neighborhood, a guy from another block would let his dog poop on their lawn and the empty lot next to them. After asking him nicely and getting a nasty repsonse back, my mom took the poop in a paper towel, walked to his house, and HANDED him the poop (the poop actually was all over his hand). Needless to say, it never happened again!!

This is true. The poop was actually right by my front door. I picked it up, tracked him down by going house to house and after I handed it to him, I told him that the next time I would shove it down his throat. What got me so angry was that my mother, who was living with us at the time, asked him not to let his dog use our property as a toilet and he laughed at her. I found out some time later that he was a suffolk county cop. Inconsiderate slob. He still lives around the corner from me, but, his dogs have never set a paw on my property again.

Seriously, though, you need to talk to this guy again and make it known, like I know you can that this need to stop NOW.
If that doesn't work, do what Maathy did (which was awesome, btw!  )

My mom had this happen once. She picked the poop up with a shovel and followed the man home. He noticed her following but didn't say anything. He went inside his house and still didn't say anything. My mom left the poop on his front door step. Needless to say, the man or dog never returned to my parents house.

I'm sorry you have crappy neighbors....we have three dogs and no fence...and our middle dog tends to wander...(it happens very rarely) I immediately go over and pick it up...
and my neighbors are so sweet they tell us not to worry about it...but I could NEVER leave my dogs poo on someone elses' lawn.
I would just pick it up and place it on their front step, maybe they will get the hint

What if you throw moth balls on your lawn??? My mom did that when our neighbor would just let her dog out and not clean up after it. The dog didn't go near our property after she threw them down!

Wow, I'd make it known from the get go that this is NOT acceptable. Once in a while a dog gets out and goes on someone's lawn is one thing (if he cleans it up right away), but this shouldn't be happening all the time.
I'd make it clear (1) he needs to clean it up and (2) he needs to keep his dog off your lawn.
There's no excuse for allowing your dog to just wander around unattended and go onto other people's property. I lived in NC and I know people tend to be a bit more laid back with their animals at times... but this crosses a line.

Oh that is horrible. I agree I would make it clear that it is unacceptable. I was just telling my DH and he said he would put it in the guy's gas tank in his car Sorry, not a sensible suggestion, but it made me laugh. I would just very nicely but firmly tell him to clear it up and please keep his dogs off your property.

My big thing is...before I mentioned it, it could have been viewed as an oversight. But now that I've mentioned it, and it's STILL SITTING THERE, it's personal. And I'm angry.
I'm REALLY not good with confrontation. Me even going to him yesterday to tell him was hard. But now that I'm angry, and he's blatantly ignored me, I'm really mad. And it doesn't help that my DH is less of a confrontational person than I am. 
I'm just so....angry.

I can't believe that... I have a dog and I would NEVER let him go on other people's lawns. It's common courtosey!
I would march over there again and let him know that you really hate bothering him and you wouldn't have to if he just cleaned up after his dog and tried his hardest to keep his dog off your property.

My dad put a gravemarker sign on the edge of his property that said "Here he lies, the last damn dog that pooped in my yard".
He swears that the neighbor lady kept her dogs off his yard after he put it up. Well, it might've been that or his comment to her after he put it up, "I'm serious, I have a bullet with his name on it if he does it again." Crazy Dad....

I know you probably dont want to start problems with him because he's your neighbor, but since you nicely asked already, I would take a plastic baggy, pick it up, and place it nicely on his driveway.
why isnt his dog pooping on HIS property? Its rediculous that he allows his dog to go on someone else's lawn! You're completely justified in being angry.
If it continues, I'd place a complaint with the town or the police. Its unsanitary and disgusting and theres no excuse for it being on your lawn.

This would REALLY bother me and like you, I hate confrontation, especially since you are new to the neighborhood.
I would probably leave it there and then ask one more time FIRMLY.

ETA: What would make it even better is if they come home when its still dark out, they may just accidentally step in it.
