Needing lots of PRAYERS and sticky dust (very long, sorry).....

hi ladies,

i've seen what the power of prayer can do on these boards and i never thought i'd be in a position to ask for them, but here i am. i apologize for the fake name but for now have decided to not post under my real name (i was not a huge poster anyway, more of a lurker, but i was on LIW a lot!).

here's my story......i got my BFP on 7/16!! i couldn't even believe it since i knew my DH and i hadn't really BD'd as much as we should've last month. but, i guess the couple of times we did it around my O, worked!! (i was using OPK's so i know when i O'd)

for some reason i've been sooooo nervous the whole time about the pregnancy sticking. i guess it's just my nature but this is my first pregnancy and i'm just a constant worrier....

fast forward to this past tuesday.....i got home from work and noticed a little bit of brown spotting on my panty liner. that night it seemed to dwindle and by time i went to bed it was gone. the next morning i woke up and there was again a little brown spot (sorry for the TMI). so, i called my dr's office and the nurse was not all that concerned but said to ease my nerves i should go to the hospital for a sonogram (the office tech was not in that day). so we go for the sonogram at the hospital and the tech was so nasty. she wouldn't tell us a thing and would not let me see the screen. i know she was not allowed to say anything or show us, but she just wasn't nice. once we were finished, she said to call my dr's office for the results. so i called the nurse again and she said the sonogram wasn't so bad. they saw a sac and a fetal pole but no heartbeat. she didn't seem concerned at all since i was only 5w5d at this point and she said that's probably too early for a heartbeat. oh, btw, the sonogram was vaginal. she did say that she'd like me to come in for bloodwork so they could look at my beta's.

so....my bloodwork from wed showed my beta level at 4694 and my progesterone at 20.3. the nurse thought these were really good initial numbers. i went back yesterday for more bloodwork and the nurse just called with the results.......now my beta is somewhere in the mid 7000's (sorry, i didn't write down the exact number b/c i was so nervous) but the nurse said this was a "good increase" even though it didn't double. however, my progesterone dropped to 16. she said this still isn't cause for alarm b/c the minimum they look for is 15 but they may put me on supplements just in case. as it stands now, they are going to see if the tech in their office can get me in for a sono on monday and they will also take more blood.

i know this is not "bad" news but i am a nervous wreck. i'm so scared that this baby is not growing and that the sono on monday will show that. on monday i will be 6w3d and i know by that point we should see the heartbeat.

if anybody out there has a similar story with a positive outcome, i'd love to hear it and if not, i'll take all the prayers we can get. i am trying to stay calm but it's really hard.

if you read this far, thank you so much and thanks in advance for your prayers!

I agree. I know it's hard not to worry but try to. Sounds like you are in good hands with your doctor's office too - they are keeping an eye on you. I agree.

My doctors office doesnt check your levels unless you request it. I didnt this time around (mainly because my first appt was very late (at 7 weeks) and I didnt want to stress about it.

I have been spotting ( brown, red and pink) my entire first trimester. I am now 10 weeks and the baby is doing fine. Sometimes these things just happen. Just keep a positive attitude, beleive me I know it is hard, I had 2 previous m/c that did not make it past 8 weeks. Try your hardest to relax and we will all keep you in our thoughts and prayers! I'm sure you will be ok!

I think ur numbers are pretty good. I know everyone says doubling betas indicate a viable pregnancy, however my re and most drs look for a 60% increase.
Having a fetal pole and gest sac present at 5 weeks and 5 days is excellent!!! U usually dont see a hb until after 6 weeks - even a day makes a HUGE difference.

As far as progesterone goes it does fluctuate during the day. My re explained to me we can get a reading of a 20 and then get a reading of 15 a couple hrs later. If ur dr wants to put u on progesterone supplements thats ok. Many women including myself were on them until 12 weeks.

Good luck - seems like ur doing great! Chat Icon

I have healthy twin boys. My progesterone was always good because I was and IVF patient and had intramuscular progesterone. My betas never doubled like they should and they actually predicted that one of my boys would not make it. However-he is here and he's 8 months old and just went to take a napChat Icon

ITA! Based on everything you wrote, it seems completely okay. Your #s were okay from the beginning. To tell you the truth, I was shocked that they took you in at 5 weeks. Usually they wait until at least 6-8 weeks. I havent really heard of seeing a HB at 5 weeks. i think there is alot of hope. Dont stress Chat Icon

I am so sorry you are so stressed out. I am a big worrier too, and would probably be going crazy in your situation as well. My sister, who is now 19 weeks pregnant went through the EXACT same thing, if that makes you feel any better. She said that she refused to get stressed, and believed in the power of thinking positive (I wish I could be more like her!).... I am hoping and praying that you will have the same result!
