Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.
Ok, so I am Jewish.
I am rent a house right now and it's for sale. My dog found, what I think, is Joseph. He dug it up and brought to me. Nice dog.
Anyway, I found out that people of any religion bury Joseph to help sell the house.
My question is since it's not our house should we re-bury him? Should we take him with us and bury him at the new house?
Do people dig up Joseph when they move and re-bury???
Thanks everyone.

I am catholic & while we were selling our home we buried St. Joseph. Once we moved we took him with us!

I don't think he needs to be reburied...the previous owners probably forgot about him. Keep him and save him if you can.

Never heard of this tradition before...but I googled it and apparently it is pretty popular. Maybe I should do this - since we have been trying to sell for months!
If I were you, I would probably re-bury it esp if the house is on the market - just in case it is the current owners that buried it and they are looking for help selling!

I would rebury him. If the house you are renting is for sale now, it might be the current owners who buried him. I also believe he is supposed to be buried upside down, or that is what my family says anyway!

I used to work at a catholic religious goods store and we sold more of those plastic St. Joseph statues than any other saint. I was pretty shocked when I found out what they were being used for. I learned a lot on that job.

I agree. Or you can ask them if they buried St. Joseph and then re-bury if they did. But he should be upside down and what the ppl are supposed to do is dig him up when the house is sold and display him in the new house for one year. I did this when i sold my condo, no back yard but a small patch of grass in front of my cement patio did the trick.

Re: Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.
I am Catholic and I have never heard of this! Luckily my house sold fast anyway.
I would say it's the current owners (are they Catholic) and I would rebury it. I might even tell them in case they go to look for him after the fact.

Rebury him upside down. The owners are then supposed to take him when the house sells and bury him at the new house but head up there

I heard...you bury him upside down facing your house. When you sell it, take it with you and put it somehewhere in your new house...NOT rebury him??? never heard of that.
Reminds me...I need to buy a Joseph.

Re: Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.
I have heard of this before. It's one of a number of weird Catholic superstitions. I would just re0bury him. Obvi you don't want the statue and I'm sure you don't want to do anything disrespectful like throw it out, so I'd just rebury it or clean it and sell/donate it.
ETA: Oh I missed the part where you said you're renting and don't own the house. I'd rebury it and ask the landlords.

yep - we just did this a couple of months ago b/c our house is on the market. You are supposed to bury it upside down and say a prayer. When you sell and move, you take it with you. I would bury it again (upside down)!

I don't think you should take it--can't be good Karma for stealing Joseph
I'd call you landlords and ask. It might mean something to them. If not I'd just bury it outside again in a place your dog doesn't dig.
