I do not call by any nickname unless given their consent.
Or if I hear others calling them by a shortened version. Then I assume it is okay.

I always call/introduce myself with my full first name (Jessica)
people shorten it to Jess, which I don't mind...but VERY few people are allowed to call me Jessie..and when those not privileged enough do, it irks my nerve.
until I am very familiar with someone, I tend to use their full first name, unless told differently by that person.

I always call people by their full name unless they call themselves by a shortened name when talking to me. Then I will use the shortened/nickname.
I like people who I don't know well/like to call me by my full name (Suzanne). I only like people I actually like to call me by a shortened name (Suz or Suza).
