Truth be told, I typically work summer school out of necessity and always have even through last year's scorching summer while I was 8 months pregnant. I simply do not command a salary that rivals those of my public school teaching counterparts and I never will. I teach special education in a psychiatric day treatment center that serves children with severe emotional disturbance. Summer salary is based on my base salary from the beginning of the school year. I had been off of payroll for 3 months while I was on leave so my summer salary goes down. DH and I figured that though we would be slightly ahead if I did teach summer school, that it wasn't enough to make that much of a difference in how we live. We aren't losing money, we just arent getting extra. The money we put into child care will still be pulled from our accounts and either saved or invested.
While being on leave with Abby was fun, Abby had not yet developed into the personality that she is now. She is a delightful, even-tempered, social joy of a daughter and I miss her terribly when I don't see her. Again, I am blessed to have her in my life. I shall spend the summer eating her cheeks.
