My green thumb experts, please help!!UPDATED WITH PICS ON BOTTOM
I've decided to do some MINOR landscaping. I'm posting a pick of the space, and there is also about three additional feet that goes around the corner a bit.
I want hostas, but also want colorful flowers, but I DO NOT have a green thumb, so it would have to be low maintanance.
Any suggestions? Image Attachment(s):

I love Hydrangea Bushes
I would LOVE to plant them, but I don't want to kill them. Are they easy to maintain?

if you want ever greens- go with azaela's and you can put three mini ones there i would put two pink and one white.
then around the azalease you can put impatiens for the summer time!

I would say in the sun. We have no trees for shade out front, but I see that my lawn isn't as green as the people across the street, so I would say I get some shade (or the sun doesn't like our side of the street)
I will water as often as need be. We can set our sprinklers to any time.

I would do Inpatiens. They will do amazing. They spread like crazy and then you just pull them out at the end of the year.

I told you I have a black thumb. What do you mean by "pulling them out"

Re: My green thumb experts, please help!!
Impatiens are annuals. Annuals are flowers you plant now, and they will flower until the end of the summer, and then you dig them up at the end of the summer.
Hostas are perennials. They will come up inthe early spring and reach their full size around now, and they wil flower mid-summer. The plant will die back in the fall & come up again in the spring.
Both impatiens & hostas are good for part shade areas. Imaptiens are good for beginners if you are looking for annuals--they are inexpensive, and then spread quickly & flower all summer.
Petunias are good annuals for sunnier spots. There are a lot of options for perrenials in suny spots.
You really need to watch the area to see what kind of exposure it gets, but that is hard this week with the rain.
What direction does it face?

Re: My green thumb experts, please help!!
If you are looking for something that comes back every year and you don't want to plant something new every year, you can def. go with Daylilies. They multiply each year, so you will have nicer and nicer blooms from them each year. Of course evergreen type of bushes would be an easy thing to plant. Just have to water. Hygrangeas require enough water and not direct sunlight for the full day.
My Daylilies. We have yellow & red ones.
Check out my Garden Album
All the plants I have are low maintenance. Just ask when you go to a nursery to buy them.

Re: My green thumb experts, please help!!
I kill all housepllants but have a beautiful outdoor garden every year.
What to put there totally depends on what you want. Do you want green year round or are you ok with spots being barren or empty branches in the winter?
Do you like variety and want to add some annuals into the mix. You will need to replant them every year.

Re: My green thumb experts, please help!!
There are so many perennials that would do well in your setting. I'm a big fan of daylilies too, I have lots of them. Other plants that are beautiful and easy to grow on LI are montauk daisies & black-eyed susans, or ornamental grasses they grow a little taller which would look good in your spot. Then you can fill in the lower area with textured leafy plants like lambs ear or hostas. Hydrangeas can be picky about soil. Impatiens are easy & pretty but you can't count on the coming back-although sometimes they do.

Re: My green thumb experts, please help!!
Thank you all for your suggestions. You've all made me real excited to get started, but I also need to remember my black thumb, so I'll keep it simple for now.
Next question...where in the Deer Park/Dix Hills area can I find a good nursery that won't break my bank roll.

Re: My green thumb experts, please help!!
I would stagger the blooming season too...
some tulip/hyacinth/daffodils for the spring
echinecea, tall phlox, black eyed susans for the summer
montauk daisies for the fall
all are very low maintenance

okay--with that & your earlier description, so you probably have a partly sunny area, so lots of things will do well. The tags on the plants should say how much sun they need & you can always ask the staff.

Re: My green thumb experts, please help!!
Partly sunny, you can do daylilies, hydrangeas, some azaleas (check the size though, they can get big). Spotted dead nettle (much prettier than it sounds) is nice as groundcovere or filler also--silvery pink-green leaves and small purple flowers.
