Amazing. My 8 yr old spontaneously listed off 15 reasons trump is bad on Sunday. Number 6 was he cheated at elections, number 3 was he eats steak with ketchup. We just suggested she switch up the order. Chat Icon

Kids mimic what they hear from parents and teachers. So either you are speaking at home or the teacher, who should not be speaking about politics is speaking at school.

Children absorb the world around them...from all sources be it media, parents, teachers.
They mimic things like compassion, tolerance. love, acceptance when they are surrounded by those things.
They learn to question the world, draw conclusions, develop critical thinking when they are safe and given an arena to speak them.
These children are showing great life skills!

Teachers and schools should not be getting involved in politics no matter if it is elementary, high school or college.

Why should politics not be taught in school? That would mean that current events to some extent, should not be taught in school.
How far do you go with not teaching politics? Do you keep the American Revolution or the Civil War and dump the New Deal?
Do you stop teaching judicial process because it involves one of the branches of government which are political in some sense?
You mean teachers and schools should not have bias opinions that they share as facts. An example would be a teacher stating that Trump won the 2020 election but it was stolen from him and teaching that as fact. Where as a teacher could share the conspiracy theories and Trump's coup and use the above as example of dangerous rhetoric. Can you see the difference?

Teachers should not be pushing their agenda and who you should be voting for, either side.

Even in College? That would be highly unusual. Most college professors do share their positions and thereby reveal their leanings...it's not so much as pushing their ideals, but presenting them to expand the mind of the students.

I can think of a bunch off the top of my head that I had that were Republican, Democrat, Indep.

Maybe it depends on your major.

Many push their ideals. Teachers have been suspended this year just for that.

guess it depends on the major and if the college kids are delicate snowflakes. I was fine having professors with different views. I learned a lot of good points from them that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Guess you have missed what some of these teachers are saying now. There was one at SCCC that got in trouble last year.

I'm really tired of your whataboutisms to try to "win" an argument or discussion. It has no relevance.
So one teacher at SCCC got in trouble for something said or posted so now politics should not be taught at any level in k-12 education.
It makes no sense and only serves as a distraction so you can avoid answering questions that would disprove your theories.

Yes their beliefs of politics and my first post was that her son would have learned to say that from home or school. That is not something a 9 year old comes up with. A teacher saying we should celebrate IS pushing their views. Just like they would have when Trump won in 2016.

I disagree. My son, now 12, was 8 during the 2016 election. He had a friend that was very active and very vocal of his political beliefs. He participated in phone banking for the political candidate he was backing and he has cohesive arguments for that of a 9 year old.
My son also is able to share is thoughts and feelings about various subjects.
So, yes, it is completely something a 9 year old would say or come up with.
They are a lot more intuitive then you seem to think.
All my children have requested to watch the inauguration tomorrow.
They are very vested in current events.
I don't know how old your children or child is and you have stated things that make me believe your child is older - in middle to high school perhaps. You should listen to them and hear them. They are interesting and smart. Stop dismissing them. You might learn something.

Amazing. My 8 yr old spontaneously listed off 15 reasons trump is bad on Sunday. Number 6 was he cheated at elections, number 3 was he eats steak with ketchup. We just suggested she switch up the order. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Kids are smarter than some adults!

Kids mimic what they hear from parents and teachers. So either you are speaking at home or the teacher, who should not be speaking about politics is speaking at school.

Kids are extremely perceptive and curious little creatures. They care about the world around them as they should because it's their world too. You can instill all the anti-bullying campaigns you want, but you cannot hide from the fact that the president himself is a bully.

As well as many posters on this board but we seem to ignore that. Chat Icon

I haven't seen any bullying on this board. I may have missed it as I haven't read every thread. What I do see a lot of is back and forth discussion and people calling you out on your baseless claims.

That is so awesome. Good for them. Kids are amazingly smart in so many subjects. And they understand so many things that adults just assume they don't.

I agree. My kids are 7 and 12 and to me, of course, they are babies but when you sit down and converse with them you quickly realize how many things they are aware of and understand. They have so many intelligent things to say about a multitude of topics and issues, I love hearing their opinions because when they open up it always leads to a deeper, more interesting discussion.

Re: My 9 yr old DS cracks me up

And in Boy Scouts, at age 11, thousands of Scouts across the Country start to become actual leaders, making decisions that affect other people, and adults (as long as it's safe and practical) follow their lead. They vote in their fellow kid leaders, and they learn that sometimes elections have consequences. It's amazing what they know and do.

I have older kids, both with different stances. It could be fun sometimes listening to them, NOT Chat Icon
