Montauk Monster???

I just saw this on the 5:30 news. Scared the beejesus out of me!

Warning: graphic picture

Montauk Monster

I tried to find a legitimate news source but this is the best I could come up with that had a pic.

Any guesses as to what it is?

Re: Montauk Monster???

Saw this the other day. My mom lives in Montauk and said there is a lot of speculation.

Theories:
An experiment from Plum Island (think Island of Dr. Moreau)
Turtle without a shell
Skinned racoon (I don't buy that one)
Platyweasel or something like that.

Since when do turtles have teeth? Though that seems like the most logical explanation. Regardless, that thing is FREAKY looking.

Re: Montauk Monster???

Looks like a photoshop job to me.

Plum island does animal disease testing. So if cow pox washed up on shore, I'd believe it. But they are not genetically mutating monsters. People need to get a grip and lay off the conspiracy theories.

Re: Montauk Monster???

My guess is turtle without shell....I've handled a snapping turtle that was about 2 feet long and he definitely had little teeth in his mouth...He was pretty hideous too...Chat Icon

Re: Montauk Monster???

DH doesn't think it's a turtle- they have scales on there arms and legs

this think has elbows

and you can't just "deshell" a turtle- it's skin would be ripped off

I think this is an escapee from pulm island

Re: Montauk Monster???

check out this- this is what Jake thinks it is

Chupacabra- mexican monster

The most common description of Chupacabra is a reptile-like being, appearing to have leathery or scaly greenish-gray skin and sharp spines or quills running down its back.[15] This form stands approximately 3 to 4 feet (1 to 1.2 m) high, and stands and hops in a similar fashion to a kangaroo.[16] In at least one sighting, the creature hopped 20 feet (6 m). This variety is said to have a dog or panther-like nose and face, a forked tongue, and large fangs. It is said to hiss and screech when alarmed, as well as leave a sulfuric stench behind.[16] When it screeches, some reports note that the chupacabra's eyes glow an unusual red, that gives the witnesses nausea. Some witnesses have reported seeing bat-like wings.[17].

Another description of Chupacabra, although not as common, is described as a strange breed of wild dog.[16] This form is mostly hairless, has a pronounced spinal ridge, unusually pronounced eye sockets, fangs, and claws. It is claimed that this breed might be an example of a dog-like reptile. Unlike conventional predators, the chupacabra is said to drain all of the animal's blood (and sometimes organs) through a single hole or two holes

I remember watching a show about the chupacabra. I didn't sleep well that night. Chat Icon

After browsing through the comments on the link's website, I'd have to side with the poster who said dog.

It does look like the soft tissue decomposed away from it's nose, making it look more like beak-ish. The way it's paws are held in that position suggests that this death was not accidental.

Poor doggy.

OMG, I'm reading what people wrote. This is hysterical!!

Okay, in all seriousness:
Turtles have flippers-this thing has fingers

Racoons, I don't think they have BEAKS!!! They have jaws. Mammals don't have beaks. Chat Icon This has a beak. This is a racoon skull
External Image

Same idea goes for a dog. Plus, this thing, with close up pictures, has long finger like protrusions, not dog pads.
Plus, looking at a close up, there are no upper teeth, just bottom teeth and it appears that there is a larger bottom sharp tooth in the middle, not the sides.

Someone wrote a puffin. But do puffins have tails??? This thing has a tail.

Re: Montauk Monster???

My husband seems to feel it's a turtle without its shell.

My husband seems to feel it's a turtle w/o its shell. It could have sustained an attack from a shark or something that caused it to crack and fall off.

I suppose...

I'm not sure what I think it is but I still feel bad for the little guy.
