MONDAY Wedding?

So, we've chatted it up about Sunday weddings, Friday weddings and Thursday weddings... but have any of you ever heard of a MONDAY wedding? Yup, that's what I have this evening. Of course, I don't have off today and just started the new job so there was no way I was even going to ask for the day off. Starts at 6, I get out of work at 6. I'll be getting changed during my lunch hour, which I will be taking very late in the day (which I normally do).

Is this a new thing? I get do you and don't worry about anyone else, but really?

Nope. Christian.... Chinese, but in all my years w/ DH I've NEVER heard of any other family or friends have a weekday wedding. They even admitted it was a financial decision.

Re: MONDAY Wedding?

Probably because today is Columbus Day
A lot of people are off- but a lot are not- my company doesn't close.
I guess they are thinking it would be like a Sunday night wedding?
But it's not a day where everyone has off- I have never had off Columbus Day and I'm in private industry

I'm in healthcare, DH is an engineer, neither of us have ever had the day off. LOL.

I guess. I also think that they figured most family were coming in from out of town anyway (Cali, Hong Kong, Canada, etc).... maybe they thought this way they had the whole weekend to explore NYC... I don't know... all I DO know is that it's weird, and totally inconvenient for me... but they're family, and it should be fun. Exhausting. But fun.

A Monday wedding??? I get that it's a "holiday" but not one that most people have off for. I would NEVER plan a wedding on a Monday, I think you're just asking for a ton of "no" RSVP's. My DH would faint if I told him we had to got to a Monday night wedding after working all day and then having to go back to work Tuesday morning. That's a crazy day for a wedding! Chat Icon

Most likely because it was cheaper.

MONDAY Wedding?

I just wanted to see if I was the only one who thought this was a little off. For what it's worth, DH even said it was crazy, and he usually is the one to bring me back to reality.

Re: MONDAY Wedding?

I've been to a wedding on a Monday because the next day was the 4th of July so besides the fact it was cheaper, most people had off the next day (for he most part)
And i also have another wedding on Monday July 3rd 2017. Again, same reason

It's all for financial reasons , I'm sure. Weddings are incredibly expensive. I'm hearing of a lot of Friday night , Sunday night, Labor Day, Mother's Day etc weddings to save $. The wedding halls (from what I hear) push these days especially if they know you are paying yourself

It's definitely cheaper and pretty inconvenient for most guests. My DH would be complaining about it lol. But it's their wedding. Hopefully it'll be fun!

MONDAY Wedding?

Actually you said they are Chinese. It is not uncommon for the Chinese to get married during a weekday. I grew up around Chinatown and would always see weddings during the weekday.

I feel like anything goes these days. I'd definitely be a little put off, but I guess it's what works for them.

Agree, especially if the date signifies some lucky number.

I was a wedding planner - it's very common, someone books a Monday holiday every time.

MONDAY Wedding?

Never heard of it but my feeling when you book a wedding on a day where people need to take of work you have to be prepared for many to say no.

I do what I can for week night events but I do not go out of my even for family for them.

I also do not fault anyone for picking an "off" day for financial reasons.

Re: MONDAY Wedding?

I have never been to one, but I have heard of it. And it usually when it's a holiday. My hall was trying to sell us on this option when we were married because we were originally looking for October but it was too pricey. We refused to do that.

It's definitely cheaper.

But how much cheaper was it?? A Sunday afternoon wedding would be much more acceptable and probably cost the same. I would rsvp no unless it was immediate family or an extremely close friend

Yes. My brother got married on Labor Day years ago. Those of us in healthcare had to take the day off and the following day also.

A weeknight weeding- especially on a very off day like a Monday- is a LOT cheaper than a Sunday afternoon.

MONDAY Wedding?

People will get married any day. I have friends getting married Election Day next year because they assumed it was a holiday for everyone- um no... The groom is a cop who is always "injured"- don't even get me started and the other an accountant so I can't see them having a "holiday off" such as Election Day. But we will be there because they are good friends of ours

It's absolutely a cost effective move - I worked at a very high end catering hall (that was mentioned in the other thread) - October is a peak month, so for a single-wedding property, a Sunday would be priced at $160pp w/175 guests. Do it the Monday of Columbus Day, and we'd be looking at $125pp w/150 guests. You save $9,250.00 - that's why people do it.

Re: MONDAY Wedding?

I have been to Weddings on all days, Friday, Sat, & Sun. It never bothered me because the day is not about me. On Friday weddings, I saw that most people didn't make it to the church if it's in the early afternoon. Cocktail hour began late at 7:30 so I guess that works out but a little rushed w traffic. Guests complained about missing the church & having to rush home & back out again into Friday traffic. Sunday weddings I attended, guests complained about waking up for work the next day. If it's going to bother you that much, take full day or half day off then. The real kicker was a Sunday wedding I went to on a holiday weekend, guests complained about plans & activities they "gave up" to go to a holiday weekend wedding even though they were off the next day. You just can't please everybody.

I have never been invited to a Monday wedding but I understand that quite a few people would most likely say no.

Exactly. The bride and groom make the best decision possible for them - you can't please everyone and someone will always find something to complain about.
