Mom's pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd?

are you switching your 1st or 2nd DC to a toddler/full bed before the new baby arrives???

DD and this baby will be 23 months apart (DD will almost be a month shy of turning 2 when DC arrives) and I don't know what to do.

I am definitely getting this baby all new furniture but I am debating to convert DD's crib to a bed so I can use her mattress and breathable bumpers for the new baby?? And just then buy DD a new mattress for her bed

What is everyone doing or have done???

Is 23 months too little for a full bed?

Re: Mom's pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd?

If you know you are going to buy a new crib anyway I would leave your DD in the crib. When DS was born my DD was 24 months old. I feel like getting a sibling is such a big transition for them that I didn't want DD to feel like everything was changing and she wasn't the baby anymore because at 2 they are still babies themselves! I just thought it was another way of shaking u her world at an already tumultuous time for her. As far as the mattress you are technically supposed to buy a new one for each baby anyway for support purposes for the newborn.
Also keep in min that if your DD is in a bed and ever happens to wake up she can just get out an wander around or come get you! I liked knowing my DD was in her crib because the thought of her walking around made me anxious. She went into her bed around 3 with no problems.
Now with this pregnancy my DS is 24 months old(I'm due in June) and already out of his crib because he just didn't really love it. But we have to remember to lock the gate at the top of the stairs, close the bathroom door etc because if he ever wakes up he immediately gets out of bed.
I would definitely wait until you feel you and her are ready rather than just switch because of a new baby. Especially if you don't need her crib:). HTH

We are leaving the boys in their cribs. They will be 22mo when the baby is born. They are great sleepers and I don't want to mess w/ it. We bought a 3rd crib.

I am due with DS #2 next month and DS#1 will be 19 months. We ordered DS#1 a twin bed and new dresser for his big boy room 2 months ago and it arrived on Wednesday. We have been putting him in it for naps starting Thursday and then on Saturday night we starting trying him in it for the night and so far Sat and Sun he slept in it for a little over 4 hours then woke up so we brought him in with us. I am taking it slow.

My first two are 2 years apart. We moved older DS to his own big boy room, but at 22 months when we moved him, we decided to do a toddler bed instead. Worked out great.... We left the nursery as it was for DD.

DS will be 21 months when DD2 arrives. DD1 converted to toddler at 18 months. So I am going to attempt to put DS in a twin now. We actually got his furniture yesterday. He is 19 months now. DD2 is getting his crib, which was also DD1's crib.

DD is going to be 2.5 when DC 2 arrives, and she is just not ready for a toddler bed. She still loves her crib & has made no attempt to climb out, so we're leaving her. We would have bought new furniture anyway since DD's set converts.

Re: Mom's pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd?

DD will be 23-24 months when this baby comes. We are getting her a toddler bed soon but will not force it on her at all as the baby will stay in our room for the first 3-6 months. I figure by 2.5 she will definitely be ready for a change especially if the bed is in her room tempting her! She sleeps so well in her crib and has never tried to climb out, but they will sharing a room and I don't want two cribs in there. I'm hoping for a smooth transition!

Re: Mom's pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd?

DS will be 3 when baby #2 arrives. We just bought him a toddler bed, and plan on putting together during presidents week. The kids have to share a room, so the crib is staying up anyway. I plan on not pushing the toddler bed on him. If he wants to sleep in it great, but if not, he can stay in his crib. The baby will be in our room for the first 4-5 months anyway.

DD will be just about 2 1/2 when the new baby comes and we are moving her to a big girl bed. We actually decided this because she climbed out of the crib a few months back. Even though she hasn't done it since, we knew at that point it was probably time to switch her. Her new furniture should be delivered in the next few weeks and we will see how the transition goes. If it doesn't go well, I'm not too worried since I know the new baby will be on our room for a while anyway so we have time.

We are having the same debate now. DS is 2 today and will be 27 months when my second arrives. I was thinking he was ready and now his sleep habits are getting worse. I am afraid he will never take a nap again if I put him in the full bed.

Ugh, I have no idea what to do! DS will be @ 26 months when the twins arrive but he LOVES his crib, sleeps so well in it. There's no way I'm buying 2 more cribs, so I think we're going to convert his crib for a toddler bed and have him get used to that. Then we'll work on his big boy room. I want to use the nursery for the twins, which means moving him. But I keep reading you should not make a big move after the babies come so I don't know when he's going to move.

I spent like $50 at Walmart and bought ds a wood toddler bed before he turned 2.

Due to laziness I never disassembled the crib, so its already set up. We were using it again regardless, its in great shape.

DS will be about 26 months when baby is due and we are keeping him in his crib and getting another for the baby.

First, while he does sleep great most nights, he doesn't always go down so easily and would rather stay up playing etc. So if he was in a bed, he would just get out all the time! No thanks! And the last thing I need is a toddler coming over to me in the middle of the night to wake me because he got up and could get out instead of rolling over and falling asleep again Chat Icon

DS1 was 2-1/2 years old when we moved him to a twin bed. His brother arrived 2 months before his 3rd birthday.

DS2 will be 2 when we move him to a big boy bed...baby #3 will arrive before his 2-1/2 year mark.

DS1 would have stayed in his crib if we let him but we needed the crib. DS2 has already left the crib and now sleeps on the mattress on the floor...we are waiting on the furniture but once he started climbing out of the crib (even on the lowest setting) we had no choice.

Re: Mom's pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd?

DS was 17 months when he started climbing out of his crib. Sometimes he'll fall out head furst. We switched him over to a twin size bed at 17 months because we don't want him climbing and hurting himself. He loves his new bed and never looked back. I hop in bed with him at night and read him a book. then I lay down next to him and rub his back till he falls asleep.

DS1 will be a little over 2 1/2 when ds2 arrives so we're switching him over to a twin bed this weekend (we're doing it early so that it's hopefully a non-issue when the new baby arrives). I didn't want to have to buy another crib with the hopes that we got at least 6 more months out of the original...

We are leaving DS in his crib. He will be 26 months when baby is born. DS loves his crib so I never entertained the idea of reusing DS's bed/bedding for DS#2.

We bought DS#2 a new crib.

Re: Mom's pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd?

I don't know what we will do yet. DD will be 2 in April, baby will be here late July. I don't really want to buy another crib......baby will be in my room for 5 mos or so anyway. I may leave DD in the crib til its time to move the baby out of my room. DS moved into a toddler bed a little shy of 2.5 because his crib was recalled and in order to get the voucher for a new crib I had to send in the hardware the held up the mattress Chat Icon He did great and never had an issue so idk. My mind isn't made up yet.

Thank you so much for all your input.
I think I am just going to leave DD in her crib. We are already getting another crib/furniture set for the second baby so I will just get the baby a new mattress. DD sleeps so well, I do not want to mess that up.

Re: Mom's pregnant with their 2nd or 3rd?

I guess I am in the minority. DS is 19 months and will be 22 months when DC #2 is born. He is great with sleeping in the crib right now (although the mattress is on the floor - he has climbed out), but he is so big and long I feel like he doesn't have much space.

We decided to transition him to a full-size bed before the baby is born to avoid doing it after the baby comes. We just moved and he did amazing with that transition, so I am hoping it will be the same with the bed Chat Icon

This is what I'm thinking (although we may move the baby out sooner and I have a DS).

We haven't really set anything up yet since we're Chat Icon . We do have a toddler bed ready and waiting to use for DS - a neighbor gave us a fire truck bed - which I'm sure he's going to love which will make the transition easier, even if we do it after the baby.
