Mommies That Use Time Out ( Cute Benches..)

They have some really cute time out benches at the Super Marshalls in Stony Brook. They are wooden and painted in boy and girl themes and say "time out" across the back. They are $29.99

we use a cute little bench for time out and Aly completely understands that its NOT a good thing when shes put there...even if the chair is really cute LOL. We got it made up at the flea market in sayville. Its handpainted with her name and TIME OUT across it. Its cute haha.

I agree, there is nothing cute about a time out and imo a time out bench will encourage bad behavior.

I dunno about that. DS gets time outs and is sent to sit on his bed and while his bedding is cute, it certainly doesn't encourage bad behavior. That's actually pretty funny Chat Icon

For me, A bench would be ideal as Noah is so young still, getting him to stand is harder, then getting him to sit. I dont think theres a RIGHT or WRONG way to do Time out's BTW.

I saw the seat, its cute and I'm all for cute!

Honestly? DS has been sitting on his toy bench for time out. So I highly doubt a wooden bench would ENCOURAGE time out. And trust me, DS still screams when I put him in time out.

I am going to go look tomorrow Summer, I think it is a good idea. Especially if you don't want to use DC's room or crib as where they go in time out

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that they're not getting any cute little bench to sit their royal obnoxious butts on when they are misbehaving. (I'm having a really hard day with my 6 year old!) Mine sit on the rug near the front door. I just picture a bench being turned over and moved around and me adding additional time on the time out. I don't think it encourages bad behavior but they're not getting a special fancy chair.

They are cute though. Chat Icon

I do believe that, and thats why I make sure our time out place is not the place where my son would like to spend time.
Its okay if you think its silly for thinking that, but I do. Sorry. And for me personally, I wouldn't spend money on anything punishment related. Punishments should be free of charge!Chat Icon Also, if its somewhere that your kid like, how is that punishment?

If I can pipe in, I think it makes sense to send them to their room for a TO. Maybe not for a younger child but as they get older, can be very effective. Just the fact that they are removed from their current activity and relegated to another area is often just as effective as then sitting in the corner or facing the wall. I do this with my 6 year old sometimes too. But some sentences can only be served with their nose in the corner. Chat Icon

No cute bench here. At school we have a "thinking chair" & we found an old-school wooden chair that looks like its from 1920.

I'm sure Emma doesn't know what "cute" and "not cute" is, so it really would be irrelevant to her whether or not she would be put in timeout in a "cute" chair, or on a piece of carpet Chat Icon Now IF the chair had toys attached, a mini TV, etc. THAT would probably be an issue Chat Icon If you don't like it, don't buy one, simple as that! But why would you think a kid would appreciate a cute painted hard wooden bench? I think the "cute" part is more about the Moms and appeal to their decoratiing senses Chat Icon

Re: Mommies That Use Time Out ( Cute Benches..)

I have a cute Time Out Chair - not bench!

It's actually sitting pretty in his room right now -- I may need to bust that bad boy out and bring it downstairs the way things are going around here!

I can only imagine the wrestling matches that will take place once I try to put him on this chair! Chat Icon

Take a picture of it Summer - I want to see!!!! Maybe I'll keep the chair upstairs - and get a bench for downstairs -- I have a feeling we'll be doing lots of Time Outs around here! Chat Icon

I don't think you should take it back - I think it is adorable. I was just stating my first instinct. Trust me if it becomes associated with punishment, Emma will not think it is cute.

I have to send my 23 month old to her room(all her toys are out in the living room since its so small) and shut the door. Sounds mean but she laughs like its a big joke when I put her in time out any where else. This is the only place that makes her upset, by not being able to see us. She only gets a minute at most though but it really works.

Re: Mommies That Use Time Out ( Cute Benches..)

I think the benches are really cute, if they didn't say "Time out" I'd buy them just for them to have something to sit on. Both of my boys sit on the bottom step of the stairs if we are on the main level. If we are upstairs, they sit on the floor in the hallway.
