Mini Bathroom Redo m- UPDATE complete
Well my 1950's bathroom has finally failed and we have ZERO cash to do it. So we decided to buy a new vanity and toilet dirt cheap ($150) and paint the entire room over.
What we had: (sorry didn't have the wide angle lens) basically its dark wood paneling that is thick, pink tiles, pink toilet, pink tub with old white plastic surround, i guess pink ceiling with tar stains and a vanity that was growing mushrooms.

started to paint

Primed:

complete its not perfect but it will hold us for a few more year until we can do a full gut job. Sorry its only camera phone photos!

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
First question.. what color are you painting the paneling?
For the other answers.. I'd say paint the medicine cabinet silver since you are going w crome accessories... If you do shabby chic I would not do any black. The Martha Stewart collection stuff you have sounds nice. I really would stay with a solid shower curtain since the tub and the floor and technically the walls are busy...

Ok so I think if you get a white curtain or solid color curtain paint the celiing lighter pink. If you go bold on the curtain I'd stick to white ceiling too. I think it's going to come along nicely.

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
not sure if you are intersted in this idea but what we did for DH's parents house were those sticky tiles. we just put them right over that same floor that you have. they are inexpensive and actually looked like a whole new bathroom.. it came out great too. just for a quick fix anyways!
also for a medicine cabinet you can also do just the all mirror one. thats what we have. no trim on it

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
I happen to like white ceilings better than colored, especially for a bathroom. A colored ceiling says "cozy" to me, and you want the bathroom to read "clean" and "bright."
Also, the design rule of thumb is no more than 3 colors in a room. So pink, black, white, yellow, and green is a little much...
Are you going for a really retro look? We did in our bathroom, but we did black, white, and blue. In your case, with the pink floors and tub you can't get away from, you could embrace the pink but do some different shades of it (magentas, etc) in the accents to brighten it up, and maybe add some shades of gray too?

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
i would replace the medicine closet but its more money then what i want to spend so just recycling.
I have to buy new towels, valance and floor mat regardless because its three years old and they are not holding up so that is why i was wondering about the demask print but if its too much i will just match what i have.

I really like the black, white & pink scheme. This way you are still including the tub & flooring. It will be modern retro. With the walls being white, the toilet will be white & the vanity will be white too. I would paint the mirror wood silver/chrome to go with those other accessories. Ceiling white. I really think it will look great when it's done.

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
I can stick with mostly white (ceiling, walls, toilet, vanity, shower curtain) with light pink towels and rug.
I just love black and that is my problem and i love that print but if its going to look scary i don't want to purchase it because i won't be able to return it i think unless i go buy it at amazon.

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
Jenn I don't think the damask print is too much. You are embrassing the colors that you have and working with them. If you go with white walls, white toilet, white vanity, and a white shower curtain that is a lot of white. So breaking it up with the damask print with the pink at the top is really a great idea. Buy different shades of pinks (darker & lighter), maybe a black rug. Love it! I love black, white & pinks.

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
silver medicine cab to match all the chrome you have going on in there already...
i like the damask print shower curtain...i want to say go for it if i were you i would finish the paneling, get the new cabinets in and then take it from there -even though i want to say go for the dark curtain i say wait it out until the room is done and then think about the accessories...i notice that sometimes when you start a project you have one thing in mind but then as the project progresses your vision for the room changes - this has happened to me and then i'm stuck with stuff i'm not sure about or i wish i did something different...so my advice is don't commit to anything accessory wise until you have everything else done...

If you go with white walls, white toilet, white vanity, and a white shower curtain that is a lot of white. .
True but the textures are important to consider too. The paneled walls in a small area is already a lot of texture. If she is all white except for tub and floor and adds accessories IMO (only mine lol haha) I think it would be more shabby chic feel. If you want to go modern add the black for sure !

I love the damask shower curtain but I would try the MS set you already have before spending more $$. If you like the MS set maybe you can use the $$ for a new medicine cabinet. If I were going to paint the med cab I would go with the same white you are using on the walls. It will blend into the wall. You cant go wrong with white.

Beth has a good point. Sorry forgot the walls are paneling.
Jenn, I think that you should take Nik's advise and do everything else first and then look for accessories. Maybe the Martha Stewart collect you already have will look really nice in the space. If you are going to shabby chic then stick with the collection you have already. If retro, then wait until all paint and fixtures are in and then decide. GL!

Jenn, take pics after you paint and let's see what the greenish yellow accessories look like. Sometimes a picture is so helpful to see if you really like something or not. GL! Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
I agree with Nik too. I am leaning more towards just keeping it pink and white tho.
But, check out Target too. They have an entire line of shabby chic.

Re: Mini Bathroom Redo
tonight will be the second coat but i have to say this morning when i walked in the shower curtain really didn't look bad at all in the space and the green rug was nice still so i think i am going to stick with the old stuff for now. I just ordered cute balloon valance in white and some cute mirrors hanging off a ribbon.
I scored some nice baskets at big lots for like $12-$10 each which now you wont see all of our bathroom stuff on the open shelves.
